A nice crowd turned out for a clash between the Akron Ambers and Joplin Red Racers.

The Akron Ambers withstood an impressive performance by Joplin third baseman Wendell Guiney to defeat the Red Racers, 5-4, at Red Racers Ballpark. Guiney went 2 for 2 with a home run and 2 walks, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. The winner in relief was Juan Gonzáles. The left-hander allowed no runs on 4 hits in 2 innings. He now owns a record of 5-3.

It could have been a different outcome for Akron, had it not been for Rafael Martínez, the 25-year old second baseman . Martínez contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the first inning to put Akron up, 1-0.

"Winning never gets old," said Martínez.

The last-place Ambers are now 40-63, the Red Racers 59-44.
