Anchormen Deal Locomotives 5-2 Defeat
|
The Newport News Anchormen defeated the Leeds Locomotives, 5-2, at Rhino Park. Newport News catcher Davey Short had a superb performance. He was 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Newport News starter Wayne Kearney was credited with the win after throwing 109 pitches over 7.1 innings. His record now stands at 4-10. Luca Whiteway, credited with the save, is now 8 for 10 in save opportunities.
António Gómez, the Newport News right fielder, contributed a 2-run single in the top of the fifth inning to make the score 2-0, Anchormen. For the game, Gómez was 1 for 2 with a walk. He drove in 2 runs.
Short told a Newport News Today reporter that he was "very satisfied" with the win.
The Anchormen go to 30-58, putting them last in the Appalachian Mountain League East.
