Red Racers Stick Dons with 8-5 Loss
The Joplin Red Racers picked up a win at Clifton Stadium, knocking off the Clifton Dons, 8-5. On the mound for Joplin was right-hander Harris MacLay, who played a pivotal role in the win. The winner was Joplin reliever Gilberto Flores, now 1-1. The loser was Greg Smith. Dave Briggs earned the save, his 21st.

Joplin used the timely hitting of Masaharu Noguchi to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Red Racers on top, 6-5. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

Noguchi said afterward that "winning is what it's all about."

Joplin now sits in second place in the Appalachian Mountain League Central at 48-36.
