The Newport News Anchormen faced a tough opponent in Akron pitcher Ramón Muñóz, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Great Lakes Field by a final score of 4-3. Muñóz went 7 innings and allowed 2 runs. Newport News reliever Lyndon Hoath was the winner. His record is now 3-1. The losing pitcher was Juan Gonzáles. Newport News, at 25-54, sits in last place in the Appalachian Mountain League East.

Newport News used a clutch hit from Blake Morgan to get the win. The right fielder drilled a solo home run in the top of the 12th inning to put the Anchormen ahead, 4-3. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"Good to pick up this win," Morgan said.
