Braggarts Suffer 4-1 Setback
|
Behind an impressive start by Johnny Arthur, Joplin beat Fayetteville, 4-1. Arthur picked up the win for Joplin, going 8 innings. He gave up 1 run on 5 hits. He now sports a record of 7-3. The third-place Red Racers improved to 41-32.
Joplin needed the clutch hitting of Masaharu Noguchi to notch the win. The right fielder hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Red Racers on top, 3-1. For the game, Noguchi had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"We made a couple of mistakes," said Fayetteville skipper Cristóbal Pacheco, "and it cost us."
