Anchormen Shimmy Past Golden Sands, 4-3
|
The Aberdeen Golden Sands got a superb performance from pitcher Henry Spencer. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Newport News. The Anchormen won the game, 4-3. Spencer threw 5.0 innings of shutout ball. Wayne Kearney was the winner. Over 8 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 9 hits, with no walks and 5 strikeouts. Newport News, with the win, climbs to 22-50.
The result might have been different for Newport News, had it not been for Ben MacFadzean, the 28-year old shortstop . MacFadzean stroked a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth inning to put Newport News up, 4-3. For the game, he had 1 double and 1 single in 2 at-bats.
"I was a little disappointed," said Aberdeen manager Yoichibei Suzuki. "We could've and should've scored more runs."
