Big Day for Gorwyn in 5-2 Tinajon Win
|
The Camaguey Tinajon trumped the Newport News Anchormen, 5-2, at Tinajon Ballpark. Camaguey first baseman Lawrence Gorwyn was terrific. He went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 2. Alfred Hall, the winner, improved to 7-2. He held the Anchormen to 2 runs on 5 hits over 5.2 innings, while striking out 7 and walking 3. Lúcio Ríos earned the save for Camaguey, his 7th of the year.
Gorwyn contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for Camaguey in the bottom of the first. With his team trailing 1-0, Gorwyn took a changeup from John Bradley and stroked the home run to right. His 4th home run of the season allowed the Tinajon to leap in front, 2-1.
"We're stringing together some nice wins," said Camaguey manager Brad Porter.
The first-place Tinajon have won 4 straight.
