The Leeds Locomotives picked up a win at Rhino Park, knocking off the Jefferson County Independence, 4-2. Starting pitcher António Mata played a key role in the triumph. Leeds is now 22-19, while Jefferson County is 18-23.

The Independence had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Locomotives going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 25-year old right fielder Ángelo Álvarez came to the plate. Álvarez hit a 2-run home run on a 2-2 fastball from Jefferson County hurler Emílio Martínez. It was Álvarez's 3rd home run of the year.

"We take it day by day here," said Mata, "and today was a good one for us."
