Anchormen Stymie Jefferson County, Take 2-1 Win
|
The Newport News Anchormen eked out a 2-1 win versus the Jefferson County Independence at Anchormen Stadium. Nobody did more than pitcher Katsuyuki Sugano. He was terrific. The loss lowers the Jefferson County record to 3-6.
The Anchormen got a big at-bat from shortstop Lorenzo Meléndez. For the game, Meléndez went 2-4 with 2 home runs. In the bottom of the sixth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 3rd home run of the season gave Newport News a 2-1 lead.
"I'll probably toss and turn tonight," Jefferson County manager Román Garza said following the tough loss.
