Dykes Hope Opening Day Win Bodes Well for Season
|
The 2040 season is off to a good start for the Den Bosch Dykes. The hometown Dykes knocked off the Inverness Highlanders, 3-0, at Den Bosch Park. Den Bosch pitcher Andrés Martínez paced his team to the win. Martínez, now 1-0, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 10, walking 4, and allowing no runs.
Andrew Cannon had a big run-scoring double for the Dykes in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Den Bosch leading 1-0 and a runner on 3rd, he got a fastball from Ienobu Ito and swatted a double to right. It was his 1st double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Dykes ahead, 2-0.
"It was a solid team effort," Cannon said. "That's usually what it takes to win."
