The Aruba Wahoos started the Championship in style today, downing the visiting Mogadishu Pirates at The Fish Bowl by a score of 9-1 to grab an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series. Wahoos designated hitter Toshiro Hirose was 4 for 5 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 3.

The Wahoos took a 9-1 lead in the bottom of the eighth inning. Facing Mogadishu hurler Jeffery Ullman with no outs, Hirose hit a 3-run home run.

"Nervous? No," said Hirose. "It was my time to shine."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at The Fish Bowl in Oranjestad.
