The Sacramento Deltas got a stellar performance from pitcher Lawrence Adams, who handcuffed the Long Beach offense en route to a win, 5-2, at Devils Ballpark. The winning pitcher was Adams, now 1-0. He tossed 5 innings of 2-hit ball, while walking 4 and fanning 2. Sacramento is now 2-0.

In the top of the ninth, Reijiro Yamaguchi stood in the box, looking for a pitch to hammer. The Oilers were trailing 5-2, but had the bases loaded. That's when Alfonso Ramos made a terrific pitch and Yamaguchi grounded out. Gone was the dream of a Long Beach comeback.
