The Lana'i City Pineapples defeated the Waimalu Nene, 5-2, in Hawaiian League action at Waimalu Grounds. Lana'i City pitcher Bradley Awdry had a standout performance. Awdry, the winner, moves to 1-4. He threw 6.2 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up 2 walks. The Pineapples, at 21-48, sit in last place in the Hawaiian League Archipelago.
The Nene had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Pineapples going into the top of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 19-year old first baseman Stan Peterson came to the plate. Peterson hit a solo home run on a 1-1 slider from Waimalu hurler Mito Nishimura. It was Peterson's 2nd home run of the year.
Awdry called the win the result of "everyone working in tandem."
