Underground Rally For 3-1 Win
|
The London Underground faced a tough opponent in Manchester pitcher Bill Knight, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Whiten Field by a final score of 3-1. Knight went 6.1 innings and allowed no runs. London reliever Jorge Ruíz picked up the win, upping his record to 6-2. Jong-pil Song was saddled with the loss. Carlos Gallegos was called on to finish, recording his 1st save.
London used the timely hitting of Eichiro Nakashima to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Underground on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said London manager Jorge Ornelas.
The Underground now have a record of 61-34.
