The Tauranga Taniwha did just enough to secure a victory over the Melbourne Bitters, 4-3, at Baypark at the Mount. Nobody did more than pitcher Mark Thompson. Ronald Pittman was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 4 of 7 save opportunities. Even with the win, the Taniwha have a dismal 20-42 record.

Theo Slipper was a prime factor in the win for the Taniwha. In the bottom of the sixth with two out, the 19-year old left fielder hit a run-scoring single. He went 2 for 3 with 2 singles and a walk. He scored 2 times.

"We'll just keep our nose to the grindstone," Thompson told the Tauranga Daily.
