Statesmen Score Late, Stun Coqui, 11-4
|
San Juan second baseman Zinedine Cozens had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Cozens went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2, even as Charleston beat the Coqui, 11-4. Charleston pitcher Kurt Cameron got the win. He's now 2-3. Tim Baker was tagged with the loss. The winning streak has now reached 6 games for the Statesmen.
The game was at a stalemate until left fielder Gerardo Morales came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing San Juan pitcher Tim Baker, he hit a 1-1 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Charleston on top, 5-4.
Morales told the Charleston Citizen: "Sometimes the big stage is not big enough for me."
