Pineapples Take Down Hoops, 5-3
|
The Lana'i City Pineapples relied on the hitting of third baseman Yoshitaka Ikebe to stop the Hilo Hoops, 5-3. For the game, Ikebe slugged 2 home runs. Zuhair Abbud picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 2-0. Jo Nii was tagged with the loss. Lana'i City, at 16-27, sits in 5th place in the Hawaiian League Archipelago.
Lana'i City used the clutch hitting of Joji Watanabe to capture the win. The second baseman drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the tenth inning to put the Pineapples ahead, 5-3. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"I'm just happy to help the team win," Watanabe told the Lana'i City Observer.
