The Mexicali Shmoes topped the Nagano Olympians, 4-3, in Baja Cali League action at Shmoes Stadium. The game was highlighted by the performance of Mexicali pitcher Ánibal Gallegos. Mexicali reliever Eppe Dirks was the winner. His record is now 2-1. Shawn Pope took the loss. Michael Mooney earned the save, his 8th.

The game was at a stalemate until left fielder Santos Cruz came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Nagano pitcher Shawn Pope, he hit a 2-2 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Mexicali on top, 4-3.

"Scoring runs is scoring runs," said Mexicali skipper Hidehira Ine. "It's important to have different ways to do it."

With the win, the Shmoes improved to 56-12.
