Warriors Get Past Kumamoto for 6-5 Win
|
The Ikari Warriors withstood an impressive performance by Kumamoto left fielder Nils Wamelink to defeat the Mothra, 6-5, at Ibaraki Grounds. Wamelink went 2 for 3 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs. Celestino Corisca snagged the win in relief. In 1.1 innings, the left-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits. He's now 3-5 on the season. Thomas Teall nailed down his 12th save.
Ikari used the timely hitting of Eric Smith to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Warriors on top, 6-5. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
Smith said afterward that "winning is what it's all about."
The loss makes Kumamoto 32-54.
