Herrera Stars for Buccaneers in 7-5 Win
The Barbe HS Buccaneers trumped the James River HS Rapids, 7-5, at Ballpark of Barbe HS. Barbe HS center fielder José Herrera was terrific. He hit 2 home runs, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 3. Barbe HS reliever Lou Reed picked up the win to move to 2-0. Pablo Torrez suffered the loss. Dan Harris got the save, the 16th for him this season.

A key at-bat in the game came in the bottom of the fifth inning when the Buccaneers sent teenager Fletcher Jackson to the plate against Rapids hurler Ernie Childers. With runners on 1st and 2nd and a whole stadium watching, the kid controlled his nerves and delivered huge, hitting a single off a 1-1 fastball to score 1.

Herrera said afterward that he was glad to contribute to the win.

The Buccaneers, at 30-18, sit in second place in the Eastern League Deep South Conference.
