Oilers Take Down Remuda, 3-1
|
Boise got a decent performance from pitcher Jesús Merlano, but it wasn't enough to beat the Long Beach Oilers. Long Beach won the Ballpark of Queens contest, 3-1. Merlano threw 8.0 innings of 7-hit ball for the losing team. Hayden Rudder sewed up the save, his 26th. The Humboldt-leading Oilers are 91-64.
The Oilers got a big hit from left fielder Kazunari Ito. In the bottom of the fifth, Ito pounded a run-scoring double to right-center. His 36th double of the season put the Oilers ahead, 3-1.
"The division is still up for grabs, but I like our chances," Ito told the Long Beach Chronicle.
