Chinook Can't Finish, Lose 1-0
|
There was never a dull moment in this extra-length game between the Long Beach Oilers and the Portland Chinook.
The Long Beach Oilers picked up a win at Ballpark of Queens, knocking off the Portland Chinook, 1-0. On the mound for Long Beach was right-hander Gustavo Longoria, who played a pivotal role in the win. Omer Schaar earned the win after being called from the bullpen. The left-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 1.2 innings. He upped his record to 4-4.
The Oilers relied on designated hitter Raúl Costello for the game-winning hit. And, in the bottom of the 15th, he delivered, hitting a run-scoring single to seal the deal.
"This game will make a man of you," said Gerardo Vargas, the Long Beach skipper, "if it doesn't kill you first."
Long Beach is in first place in the Humboldt with a record of 79-56.
