Hoops Sneak Past Nene, 4-3
|
Despite a fine performance by first baseman Won-sik Kim, the Waimalu Nene lost to the Hilo Hoops, 4-3. Kim slugged 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Yi-da Xú recorded the save, his 1st. The win gives Hilo a record of 10-8.
Had Raúl Vargas not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Vargas hit a 2-run single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Hoops.
"Credit where credit is due," said Vargas, "this was a team win."
