The Cold Bay Eleven got a superb performance from pitcher José López. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Wasilla. The Sledge Dogs won the game, 4-3. López threw 7.0 innings of shutout ball. Wasilla reliever Manuel Reyes picked up the win, upping his record to 4-2. Pedro Strickland absorbed the loss. Wasilla, at 55-51, sits in third place in the Alaskan League Oiler.

Wasilla used a clutch hit from Jesús Román to snatch the win. The pinch hitter belted a grand slam home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Sledge Dogs ahead, 4-3. It was his only hit, but it was huge.

"You never take a win for granted in this league," said Román.
