The Homer Wallbangers got a superb performance from pitcher António Bruno. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Anchorage. The Mighty Moose won the game, 5-2. Bruno threw 6.0 innings of shutout ball. Anchorage, at 50-25, sits in first place in the Alaskan League Oiler.
Anchorage used the clutch hitting of Matt Davies to capture the win. The shortstop drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Mighty Moose ahead, 3-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"There's never a lack of effort in our clubhouse. We're willing to do the little things to get the win," Davies told the Anchorage Citizen.
