Oilers Lose By a Run at Portland, 8-7
Reijiro Yamaguchi did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Long Beach Oilers from losing, 8-7, to the Portland Chinook at Kauffman Stadium. Yamaguchi went 2 for 4 with a home run, while scoring 2 times and driving in 4. The Chinook, at 48-72, sit in last place in the Humboldt.

There were several reasons the Chinook beat the Oilers, but one factor was Kazuhiro Sakurai. In the bottom of the fourth, the Portland center fielder came to bat and hit a 2-run single. It staked his team to a 4-2 lead.

"We'll grab a barley pop and savor this win," said Sakurai.
