The Portland Chinook beat the Sacramento Deltas, 4-2. Portland pitcher and Longwood, Florida, native Ben McLaughlin led the way. McLaughlin got the win, improving to 7-11. He allowed 6 hits and walked 2 over 8 innings. McLaughlin allowed 2 runs. Ricardo Rico got the save, his 22nd in 25 chances.

Gary Davis dealt the Deltas a blow in the bottom of the fourth. Batting with runners on 2nd and 3rd and Portland trailing 2-1, Davis, who finished 5th in the HUM in triples with 6 last year, hit a 3-1 curveball for a 2-run single.

"Ben just went about his business, throwing strikes," said Portland manager Artie Herman.

The Chinook now own a record of 41-68.
