Desperados Pull Off Thrilling 5-4 Win in Extras
The Queretaro Desperados beat the El Ray Vampiros, 5-4, at Vampiros Ballpark. The Desperados got a fine performance from first baseman Mario Ortega, who went 3-5 with 2 home runs. Gerardo Díaz, now 6-3, was credited with the win. He allowed no runs on no hits, while striking out 0 and walking 1. Vincente Ruíz was credited with the save, his 23rd in 25 tries.

Ortega had a game-changing home run in the top of the tenth. On a full count fastball from Cris Castillo, he banged a solo home run to right, giving the Desperados a 5-4 lead. It was the 17th home run of the year for Ortega.

"This kind of game is tough on the heart," said winning manager Francisco Rúbio.

The Zona Sur-leading Desperados have a record of 66-44.
