James, Farstriders Too Much for Statesmen
|
The Florida Farstriders stopped the Charleston Statesmen, 7-1, at Moultrie Field. The Farstriders got a big game from Melvin James, who went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3. Miguel Boroa got the win, improving to 10-0. He worked 7.1 innings, giving up 1 run on 3 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 2. At 53-11, the Farstriders find themselves in first place in the Imperial League Dixie.
Jacob Gill, the 28-year old right fielder , had a direct impact on the outcome. Gill contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the first inning to put Florida up, 1-0.
In postgame comments to the Florida Herald, Gill said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
