"Chasing the Setting Sun" nears publication!

#1 Post by roncollins »

Usually I drop these kinds of things to my newsletter subscribers, first, but I'm breaking the rule this time and dropping these here a day before they go anywhere else. It seems like the right thing, after all. [grin]

As you know may know, I've been working diligently to get Chasing the Setting Sun ready for release in book form by World Series time. Now that it appears this is going to happen, I thought the gang might be interested in a sneak preview of the cover concepts that I'll be using (I'm going to recover See the PEBA to play well with the new book). They may change a little here or there ... I'm I'm waiting on another blurb or two ... but the basics are all there.

A couple points the might interest you:

- In addition to having electronic versions, I'll also be making print versions available.
- After some consultation, I've changed a few names--and used the Shannon Franklin name for the story's chief antagonist.
- As my wife suggested I was getting overly meta with narrating a story wherein Casey tells of meeting a guy named Ron Collins, I have also changed my own name in these pages. You'll fine me named Joseph Arthur (a name that holds some value to me).

Anyway..that's what I've been up to for the past few weeks. :)

Hope you enjoy!

That's pretty kool stuff Ron.
PEBA is truly an alternate universe and there are even books to prove it.

I like the common design for both covers. May I ask: did you do the covers yourself or did you hire someone?

I've done these myself. I will occasionally be hiring out other covers when the skillset required to do them exceeds my very limited capability. :)

I have been busy so I actually saw the newsletter in my email first and figured people would already be talking about it. It looks good.

As a fan of Sci-fi and baseball I'm interested at how you will bring these two worlds together. Looking forward to it. I'm also looking forward to being done painting the entire interior of my new house so I can have time to actually finish your books. Amazing how every project seems easy and fast but always takes 5x as long as I think it should take.

Howdy...just updating everyone. I released this on my site a day or two ago, and am getting ready to go wider with it. I plan to announce it on the OOTP site tomorrow, but wanted to give the league a little advance notice ... the news is that electronic versions of Chasing the Setting Sun are now available for pre-order (links below). Its release will happen on October 20th, but if you have any intention of grabbing a copy there is some advantage to me of you grabbing it before it launches (no pressure, though [grin]).

The print version of Chasing the Setting Sun will not be available until October 20th -- I'll let you know, of course.

If you haven't read the final compilation of See the PEBA on $25 a Day, you can now pick up a free electronic copy from Smashwords using the coupon code listing I've noted below. This coupon is good until the October 20th launch date for CtSS.

And, finally, for the first time ever, See the PEBA on $25 a Day is available in print!

Hey, they make great christmas presents, right?

Here are the links:

Chasing the Setting Sun Pre-order:

Amazon (mobi/Kindle)
Kobo (Epub)
Smashwords (both) (use coupon code GU69J) for 40% off! (a $2.00 savings)

See the PEBA on $25 a Day:

Print Version
FREE E-copy (use coupon code PS88R)

And now, on with the playoffs!

Very nice Ron! Purchased. I got the Kobo version, I hadn't realized the Smashwords promo thing .. but really, I don't need a discount for a book that costs $5 anyway.

Looking forward to reading it.

This also reminds me that I never did read that big long thread about Chasing the Setting Sun (I had been finishing See the PEBA at the time, which also reminds me, I've forgot to review it and put it here) ... But I assume that is primarily what this book is all about, so I should just read it in book format now that I have purchased it?

Yes--Chasing the Setting Sun is a (hopefully much more professional) presentation of the story outlined on the forums. I've done considerable rewriting in places, and focused a few things differently here and there.. It's been professionally copy edited, and whatnot. But it tells the base story the forum tells. :) It's been great fun to put out this way, and I'm just personally quite pleased to have the PEBA and LRS placed into print in these tandem volumes. I'm enjoying having them sitting on my desk.

You're an inspiration! While I am a professional writer of a different sort (journalist), I've always wanted to write a book... Naturally baseball is something that I have thought about writing about, yet I've never really came up with a good or reasonable idea, or taken the time to actually do it. It's really cool to think that the PEBA could be the genesis for a story idea that can become a book. Perhaps someday I will get some sort of similar inspiration and go down a similar path.
