As soon as possible. The actual HoF was opened in the 30's I think. You could argue that there was already 50 years... 100 years of baseball up to that point. But, it was evolving mightily at that time. Really, you can say there was about 35 years of baseball. I think that PEBA already has a solid history behind it. If others do not feel that way, we could start out by inducting 2 or three for a while, then up that number later.

Or maybe have a unanimous (or maybe unanimous minus one) requirement in the early years (with a reasonably low quorum - no pocket veto should keep a guy out). If there's any reasonable argument that someone shouldn't get in, then they shouldn't get in, at least not at first, because it will set the bar too low for all eternity.Fishermen wrote:I think that PEBA already has a solid history behind it. Look at the first 2 HOF classes IRL, for instance:
1936 - Honus Wagner, Babe Ruth, Christy Mathewson, Walter Johnson, Ty Cobb
1937 - Cy Young, George Wright, Tris Speaker, John McGraw, Connie Mack, Nap Lajoie
No close calls there, IMHO.

I like the idea of having reduced career requirements, but high vote threshold for the initial couple classes.
