Thanks to Christian for the patience while I figured out my moves. With Gonzalez departing in our other trade, we needed a stop gap pitcher to fill in for the remainder of the season, and we felt better a veteran like Gaines gives us a better chance of hanging around in the playoff race than did any of the youngsters we could have gone to. We will convert Gaines to the rotation, at least until we get Riley back.

EDIT: Please place Gaines as the # 5 starter on the Calzones active roster and in the 7 day lineup as the starting pitcher 7/26.
