Top 5 Films

#1 Post by John »

Since the Oscars are coming up, how about a list of your favorite 5 films of all time? I'll start with mine, but remember: my tastes are extremely plebe! Maybe I'll have a new entry after seeing No Country For Old Men tonight.
  1. The Last of the Mohicans
  2. V for Vendetta
  3. Braveheart
  4. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
  5. Heat

1. Blazing Saddles
2. Star Wars
3. The War of the Roses
4. This is Spinal Tap
5. The Godfather

2. Maverick (the one with Mel Gibson)
3. Without a Paddle
4. Fight Club
5. The Village

Neat... 3 different lists, 15 different movies! Keep the lists coming! I learn about different movies this way. For instance, I knew almost nothing about Lucky Number Sleven. Now I see they're comparing it to The Usual Suspects, a movie that's probably in my Top 20 of All-Time. I may have to give Sleven a look.
Badgers

I cannot come up with a TOP 5, that would be impossible for me, I have seen too many good ones.

This is a recent list

1. No Country for Old Men
2. There Will be Blood
3. The Departed
4. Children of Men
5. Rescue Dawn
6. Hot Fuzz
7. 3:10 to Yuma
8. Pan's Labyrinth

No particular order

I didn't catch Rescue Dawn (though I very much want to) and wasn't too hyped over Hot Fuzz. I was also only so-so on The Departed, though I recognize it's a high quality movie. The other 5 films are amongst the best I've seen in the 2000's. Children of Men in particular stands out to me; the way the film is shot is incredible. Any of the 8 films listed here make for essential viewing!

Some love for Braveheart, LotR and Last of the Mohicans! Looks like we've got good movie taste here in PEBA. Speaking of which, I'll strongly recommend the Trendsetters top movie pick. Léon (known as The Professional in the States) is extremely high on my all-time favorites list. This was Natalie Portman's first big role and she was great in it. Jean Reno is extremely touching as the socially awkward hitman who "adopts" Portman, and Gary Oldman is out of his mind as a psychopathic bad cop extraordinaire. Check this movie out if you haven't seen it, and try to see the foreign version (Léon) which has footage that was cut out of the American version.

hmm...i have never seen Leon, strangely enough I had to watch The professional because of an english assignment in college, we had to write a movie review and the professor assigned that movie to everyone, but yeah it is a great movie...

Last of the Mohicians is great, but I also highly recommend the soundtrack, one of the best soundtracks in my opinion, if you like classical music

The Last of the Mohicans soundtrack isn't just great... it's freaking awesome! Best movie soundtrack I've ever heard, hands down. But then it's my favorite movie, so I supposed I'm biased. ;) The one vocal piece at the end by Clannad ("I Will Find You") is hauntingly beautiful. They also used the main theme in a recent Nike football commercial.

yep, i actually fell in love with the music before the movie, but combined the two together...especially the last 10 minutes of the movie, which are perhaps the best in any movie...yep, i may have to watch that again soon
