I hope teams choose to run freely against him. It would be a fun experiment...anyone up to the challenge? I got the Codgers, Warriors, and Cyclones coming up...just adjust your strategies accordingly if you want to test him
. But be careful over the course of his career he has thrown out over 47% of runners.
I'd like to add that I think the reason Sousa isn't getting run on is in fact his defense. Only the best of runners will even attempt to steal a base on him - which is why his CS% is lower - because only the real burners run on him.
My support is my catcher in another league
Navarro Charba who is a 10 arm, 10 error and 10 rating (its a 1-10 scale in that league). His CS% is only 27% but looking around the league - guys run on him WAY less than on other catchers.
Catchers in my Division
MY C Charba (10 arm) - 62 Games, 33 SB Attempts, 27% Throwout, 2 errors
Team B Catcher (6 arm) - 70 games, 114 SB Attempts, 29% Throwout, 3 errors
Team C Catcher (8 arm) - 64 games, 89 SB Attempts, 31% Throwout, 3 errors
Team D Catcher (8 arm) - 72 Games, 87 SB Attempts, 29% Throwout, 6 errors
To me - this means that the AI is smart - it will not run as much on good catchers, and it will go crazy with SB attempts on bad ones. I'd much rather have my guy than any of the other catchers because he eliminates the effect of a running game. Seems to be the same effect Sousa has.
