Late-Round Draft Pick Success Stories

#1 Post by Cole »

I have not participated in a PEBA draft, and I would like to know of examples of late-round picks (after 6th?) that turned out to be big contributors. This might everybody with draft preparations :-o

It's far too early to call it a success, but last year's 10th round pick Mike Herr is posting mediocre numbers at High-A, is reasonably rated at all four infield positions, and maintains a healthy 3.5 star rating from my scouts. At only age 19, he may turn out to be a major-league player yet.

Arturo Moran (7th round pick) shows signs of one day making it to AA.

I appreciate the joke, but I actually think you've got yourself a marginal ML prospect right there. He's old, but he's posting the successful numbers you'd hope to see for a player of his age at that level.

If that's the case then everyone is a prospect

Oh my scout hates him. On the other hand, my scout hates nearly everyone in my system, so it's hard to get much perspective.

I'll trade him to you for Bernardo Marin.

That's actually extremely tempting due to the salary savings alone.

2007 round 8 (my 11th player) is Travis Cruz. Taken on a last minute whim has now progressed to AAA and potentially ready for ML this season. No power but good potential leadoff. :-L

2008 my draft was f'd up ... I allowed Bill to draft and he took my suggestion to an extreme. Told him we needed pitching so his first 9 picks were pitchers. The last 3 picks will remain in SS-A to start 2009 :-[
Duane

all but one season .... PEBA

Even though we fell short against Duluth in 2026 ... and SS in 2027 and 2029 8-o
IL still RULES!!!!!
