9/17/2008: Kalamazoo, MI – The odd combination of fan attendance dropping over 16% from last year while still having strong championship aspirations has made change imminent in Kalamazoo. There has also been frustration with the present front office’s lack of ability to secure top talent long-term, capitalize on the bevy of depth in their outfield, as well as the failure to make a big deal to put them over the top.
However, the mood at the Badger’s facilities has been visibly improved since rumors of a possible change upstairs have materialized. And since it became apparent that the hard-charging David Ellison was the leading candidate, the Badgers have been on a tear going 10 – 4 in September. “Players play and managers manage, and the previous regime wasn’t providing the proper balance,” as stated by veteran All-Star second baseman Ben Hurst. “This shouldn’t be the case when new management takes over.”
Members of the organization and fans alike aren’t asking too many questions on how they pried the wunderkind away from the MLB (still struggling to reform after collapsing last year). But, the flurry of activity and effectiveness of David Ellison is no mystery. His traits will be welcomed with open arms as the team braces itself for a volatile off-season with half of their everyday players eligible for free-agency, including popular outfielders George Crocker and Gregory Arnold.
