Toyama 2039 Minor League Batter of the Year: DH Michael Eubank (SA)
Image

After struggling to adapt to the NAFTA in 2038, 2039 was the year of Eubank in SS-A. Michael Eubank hit 48 HRs with 87 RBIs in just 347 plate appearances this season while slashing .278/.363/.784. Eubank led the Hawaiian League inSlugging% and Isolated power and also famously hit 3 home runs in a single game on July 11th. Eubank earned himself a Player of the Week award and was a NAFTA all-star.

Toyama 2039 Minor League Pitcher of the Year: SP Toru 'Prodigy' Suzuki (AA)
Image

'Prodigy' is never the flashy name you hear thrown around in the Toyama minor league system, but he is bar far one of the most effective pitchers we have. In 2039, Suzuki went 11-5 with a 3.22 ERA with just 96 Ks (5.2 K/9). But the groundballer gave up just 5 HRs (.3 HR/9) and 27 walks (1.5 BB/9) en route to a 2.93 FIP (3rd in the pacific) and 4.9 WAR. He didn't league the league in anything, but he was the most consistent and successful for the division-winning Fubuki

Amsterdam Minor League Hitter of the Year:
C Masaki Kouki (A/AA)

Kouki has been a bit of an under the rader player for our minor leagues despite being a supplemental round draft pick in 2035. Perhaps it's because he was drafted out of high school and national scouts haven't been very high on him. He's got work to do defensively, but he has developed a bit of power and will draw some walks. This year, he moved from A to AA and hit a combined 25 home runs over the two levels. In 33 games at AA, he hit .305 and posted a .394 OBP to go with his 20 extra base hits.

Amsterdam Minor League Pitcher of the Year:
SP Andrés Martínez (A)

Martínez's teammate, Clancy Hawkins actually won the NAFTA AWL Outstanding Pitcher Award, but Martínez was actually better and is two years younger. Had Martínez not missed 7 weeks due to a strained muscle, it's likely he would've won it. On the year, he went 13-6 with a 2.19 ERA and 187 strikeouts in 147 2/3 innings of work.

The San Antonio Calzones of Laredo today announced the 2039 Hitter and Pitcher of the Year.

Image
Tsuruki Inomata had a great season with the Joplin Red Racers at the AAA level. The 24 year old switch-hitter from Japan had 515 plate appearances on both sides of the plate, but was especially devastating against right handed pitchers, racking up 14 home runs and 68 RBI against right handed pitchers alone, while boasting a .327 OBP and getting on base over 40% of the time. He has a bright future in the majors at this rate, and has earned the San Antonio Minor League Hitter of the year.

Image
The Calzones Minor League Pitcher of the Year is Joplin SP, Johnny Arthur. The Calzones first round pick in 2036, he has skyrocketed through the minor leagues, starting 28 games and winning 18 of them this season, getting almost 12 strikeouts per 9 innings, and demonstrating that he will continue to be a fixture in the SA organization with a 6.2 WAR score.

Niihama Minor League Hitter of the Year:

A crowded pack of standouts made this year's choice exceptionally difficult. Last year's awardee 1B Oscar Simons played the year at AA at just 21-years-old and hit 43 HRs with a 144 OPS+. Same-aged RF Will Norman annihilated Rookie league pitching in his 4th and final season for the Gom. He slashed .318/.415/.701 for a 197 OPS+ 5.6 WAR, but given his age and station, he was not selected. 21-year-old 1B Jonathan Poskitt slashed .70/.385/.785 en route to hitting an absurd 50 HR in 373 PAs for the SSA Gunslingers. RF Mike Lucas split time between A and AA at the age of 24, accumulating an impressive 4.9 WAR and a .251/.388/.506 slash. Ultimately, DH Pedro Hernandez, earned his second MiL HoY Award by crushing AAA pitching at just 22-years-old. In 381 PAs, Hernandez belted 43 HRs en route to a .286/.397/720 slash that earned him the AAA Player of the Year Award. His 5.3 WAR is incredible for a DH. Hernandez homered once every 7.1 ABs against AAA right handed pitching. It's unclear if his blend of power and patience will be enough to earn him a job with the Ghosts given his other limitations, but for the year, no one in the organization bested his offensive performance.

Niihama Minor League Pitcher of the Year
:

RP Bob "Crony" Moore skipped A to progress to AA at the age of 22 after an incredible 2038 season for the Gunslingers (487 ERA+ in 36 appearances). His performance at AA was not as statistically dominant, but it was every bit as impressive. In 34.2 innings spanning 26 appearances, Moore posted a 1.56 ERA, 0.69 WHIP, 1.65 FIP, and 14 shutdowns without a single meltdown. Moore was essentially flawless for the second straight year, earning this year's accolade.

Kalamazoo Minor League Hitter of the Year: 1B Sadahige Kouki (AA)

Kouki started his first professional season in S-A strong last year, batting .279 with 30 homeruns and 75 RBIs in 89 games. He was expected to build off of that season and did not disappoint. In 2039, Kouki spent most of his time in A ball where he hit for a respectable average of .301 with 30 homeruns and 112 RBIs in 113 games. A late season promotion left him with 12 games in AA to show what he could do. He took the 12 games as serious as possible, hitting .250 with 6 homeruns and 13 RBIs. You wont see him stealing any bases or legging out a double, but has managed to keep his on-base percentage at or above .377 over his first 214 games. Seeing a player like Kouki combine for 49 homeruns, 125 RBIs, and 74 BBs is a refreshing sign for the future, especially after the start of the offseason which will almost certainly see Kalamazoo's longtime power hitter leave in free agency.

Kalamazoo Minor League Pitcher of the Year: SP Leo Gerber (A)
Gerber put together quite the season with a record of 14-7, 2.53 ERA, and a 5.3 WAR. Gerber, a 2-pitch starter if you don't include his significantly underdeveloped changeup, has created quite the name for himself in the clubhouse. Gerber earned himself a promotion in the upcoming season and a shot to earn PEBA reps in the next season or two.

San Juan Coqui Minor League Hitter of the Year:

RF Manabu Kichida (Hi-A/AAA)

In his first full season as a pro, 2038 7th round draft pick Manabu Kichida firmly planted himself on the Coqui's top prospects list (#21 according to OSA, #6 according to the soon-to-be-released Tadpole Report Part Deux) by hitting 298/400/485 with 19 home runs in a full season at Hi-A Kingston. That performance was a dead ringer for his small sample size performance in the stub season after he was drafted (296/416/492) in less than 100 PAs in 2038. This season's leading man role earned him a short end of season cup of coffee at AAA Santo Domingo, where he did not embarrass himself (2 for 12 with a home run). Coqui scouts are saying that the AA skip could be permanent, as they believe that Kichida's bat is ready for AAA. The left handed hitter is a plus corner outfielder and a good first basemen; given the Coqui's struggleto find a slugger at 1B, the latter might be his fastest path to PEBA.

San Juan Coqui Minor League Pitcher of the Year:

SP Fu-quan Feng (SS-A)

Kingston was also the 2039 home for Fu-quan Feng, an international signee who has done nothing but record outs in his last two professional seasons. After dominating SS-A Homer's opponents last season, Feng followed that with a 13-3, 2.67 ERA campaign in full season A ball. Feng's five pitch repertoire has baffled batters at the lower levels, so he will get a chance to step up to AA as a 23 year old in 2040.

SS 2039 Minor league hitter of the Year- LF Herman Hill(R)
  • Hill, the SS 2038 Minor League Hitter of the Year, has another outstanding season - .275/.377./1.068 with 38 HR, 76 RBI, and 275 TB in 351 PA. As good as that line was, it was a major step down from 2038. That is a bit of a concern given that 2039 was his third and final season in Rookie ball. But that drop seems to be almost entirely driven by a mediocre 121 OPS+ in July - he produced at a 221 OPS+ the rest of the season. So that's something. Hill will start 2039 in S-A and could see multiple promotions, if he continues to perform. Long term, it will be tough for him to break in to the SS lineup with Ryo Takahashi in LF and Raul Rodriguez at DH. But with the kind of power he has, and the cost of veterans always increasing, anything is possible. That's likely a 2041 or 2042 decision, unless he is dealt before then.
SS 2039 Minor League Pitcher of the Year SP Thomas Vail (R)
  • This was a close call, and I'll admit to being biased, but "The Goblin Prince" pulls it out again. He followed up an very good 2038 (2.70 FIP and 4.0 WAR in 118.1 IP) with an equally impressive 2039 (2.68 FIP and 3.9 WAR in 118.2 IP). He is currently ranks as the #48 prospect in PEBA, according the latest list from OSA. Looking forward, his Stuff and Movement definitely project as plus on the PEBA level, the question is his Control. He still seems likely to allow around 4 BB per 9, which isn't great, but it's serviceable. Now that he has completed his apprenticeship in rookie ball, he will have the chance to move quickly through the system. He'll likely start the season out in A ball, to get in a few more starts than in S-A. He seems on track to arrive in Evas' rotation in late 2041.

Former Madison manger with their last minute minor league players of the year:

S A
Marvin Sykes

Sykes raked all season long, and while some other hitters had better seasons his teammates lauded his work effort and the organization feels he has no where to go but up.

Malts Minor League Pitcher of the Year:
Mike Merritt (A)

Merritt went 11-4 with a 1.09 WHIP and 11.3 K/9 and a 4.7 WAR. He was an anchor for the squad as they performed well all season long.
