I guess I'll kick start this this season

Imperial League
Seaboard
1. West Virginia
2. New Jersey
3. Arlington
4. Manchester
5. Hartford

New Jersey was strong enough last year - and has done enough this offseason, to solidify itself behind the Trains - but pass them? That's a hard 'unlikely'... Arlington has swung back into rebuild mode again - one day things will stick, but for now I think they may have enough to beat our Manchester and Hartford - though I keep waiting on Manchester to make it's move; I keep feeling like 'this will be the year' and I keep getting burned...

Dixie
1. Florida
2. Kentucky
3. Charleston
4. San Antonio
5. New Orleans

Kentucky made some bold moves - but much like the Hitmen, is it enough; it's a steep hill...Charleston has been churning away in the netherworld of the PEBA - but it just feels like this is the year it all comes together; too young to catch the T-breds, but more than enough to pass up the Calzones and Trendies...

Trans Atlantic
1. London
2. Scottish
3. Havanna
4. Amsterdam
5. San Juan
6. Gloucester

This may be one of the tougher divisions - at least the toughest in the IL - no secret there. The Scottish made some moves cutting some 'deadwood' that wasn't really dead - and that might be enough to give London the edge here. Havana and Amsterdam are primed for some bounce back, which could upend this division completely - a look in the Magic 8 ball suggests don't sleep on the Leones...

Sovereign League
Great Lakes
1. Duluth
2. Kalamazoo
3. Crystal Lake
4. Fargo
5. Madison

You can pick this division a half-dozen ways and you'd still be wrong. The 'Gats have made subtle adjustments that could turn the tide simply by beating Duluth and K-zoo a couple times more.... roll the die and you could be right...

Desert Hills
1. Aurora
2. Tempe
3. Reno
4. Yuma
5. Palm Springs
6. Bakersfield

It's an even year - so Reno will be in the mix. Tempe was a tough out in '37, and with some positive additions, will continue to do so. The Borealis tried to add some power - but how much will Northern Lights allow Kowalski? The only thing keeping this division from 2-3 playoff teams will be the Rising Sun... Yuma's young arms have been making noise, and this might be the time the Yuma's begin their long awaited rise...

Rising Sun
1. Toyama
2. Niihama-shi
3. Okinawa
4. Shin Seiki
5. Neo-Tokyo

What I wrote in 2037 stands for 2038: "It's tempting to put the champs on top, but the Win-D's have made efforts to tighten their 'pen which might be enough over 162-games. The big question in the RS will be The Evil Evas' status - do they have another 100-wins in them? They may need that to make the post-season" with the bold moves Okinawa has made, while The Evil Evas have been more tinkerers...Although the top three in the Desert Hills and Great Lakes will be tough, I think beating each other up will make a bigger difference on the WC race than the Rising Sun doing the same...

Imperial League

Seaboard
1. West Virginia - no comment necessary
2. New Jersey - A consistent commitment to winning now will place the Hitmen securely into 2nd place and the playoffs.
3. Hartford - The long-awaited launch of a boatload of young pitching (GOATer et al) will have Hartford competing for a winning record and maybe even a playoff appearance.
4. Manchester - Too many careers have taken a step back while the competition has improved.
4. Arlington - A retool around McCoy will take a couple of seasons before it bears fruit.

Dixie
1. Florida - Yadda, yadda
2. Kentucky - A big gamble on Rivera's back/health places a lot of uncertainty on one of the IL's most talented rosters.
3. New Orleans - Adding Arnold and some other role players will help round out a roster lacking in star power.
4. Charleston - Zhu, Kun, and Page lead the way as the tremendous talent acquired over a long rebuild starts to emerge.
5. San Antonio - Looks like a long rebuild is underway as the Calzones new GM deals away his ML talent.

Trans Atlantic
1. Scottish - An offseason re-focus on defense over aging bats could help the pitching reach the next level, but this is a tight race.
2. London - Last season's slow start buried the team, but it's as talented as ever and could easily take the division.
3. Amsterdam - I don't love the pitching, but Vis, Yamamoto, P-Rod, and prodigy Tomomi Harada lead a potent offense that can compete for the new third WC spot.
4. Havana - Another year of close but not quite. A few too many holes across the board places a solid team a shade behind the competition.
5. San Juan - Hometown hero Salazar will spend another year without much support.
6. Gloucester - This is not a very talented ML team, but there are some interesting young players coming up.

IL Awards Winners

Golden Arm Winner: Trevino, BLEH

Sovereign League

Great Lakes
1. Kalamazoo - The most talented team in a tight division.
2. Duluth - A strong contender, if Padilla bounces back. If not, a '37 redux could drive McCoy to drink.
3. Crystal Lake - Success depends on both aging veterans and very young stars, and so while a playoff run is possible, it's also dicey.
4. Fargo - Easily a contender for 3rd or even 2nd place, but still too many gaps to keep up with the GL field.
5. Madison - The new GM has tough decisions to make on the direction of this organization as Jay jumps to Florida.

Desert Hills
1. Aurora - The edge goes to the veteran team led by Silva and a team of powerful arms. They will have to fight for this division title, though.
2. Tempe - The youth keeps improving, but the loss of Barse might prove troublesome. Pulsifer will rake.
3. Reno -
4. Yuma - If Bob can close a few more holes, this team could make the playoffs behind the immense talents of Sun and Pin. Losing the glass god to injury in Spring Training as a poor prognosticator, though,
5. Palm Springs - Nelson and Gallardo will ensure this team scores runs, but the pitching staff will hold it back.
6. Bakersfield - A team with star power but also glaring holes.

Rising Sun
1. Niihama-shi - What's the loss of a Golden Arm candidate? It didn't stop them last year and it won't this year.
2. Toyoma - Can Barse really take Gonzalez's place? That's perhaps the season's biggest question.
3. Shin Seiki - Will Gonzalez's steady production outpace Rivera's average annual output? It has to date, but Genesis Park might be tougher on the star pitcher.
4. Okinawa - The only 4th place team to make the playoffs. Matt has built a monster that could displace one (or more) of the above.
5. Neo Tokyo - The minors can be a really fun distraction...

Imperial League

Seaboard
1. West Virginia – Like the Patriots with Tom Brady, you just don't bet against them until they actually lose.
2. New Jersey – They may not have 95 wins in them, but they still have the next best mix of pitching and hitting.
3. Hartford - They may have the best young staff in the league, but the lineup still needs work. They are hoping Ocasio blitzes through the minors.
4. Arlington – Pros: They made some good solid inexpensive signings and got out from under Joe Arnold's contract. Cons: Joe Arnold was overpaid, but still a solid starter. They may struggle against lefties.
5. Manchester - Of all five starting pitchers, only three winning seasons among them all. As for the lineup, not a single starter hit over .250 last year except SS, Hector Lopez and that was in just 31 games.

Dixie
1.Florida – Just like West Virginia, they are too used to winning to start losing now. A ridiculous rotation and a stacked lineup. The only thing that can stop them is a virulent strain of malaria. They are in Florida, so there is a sliver of hope,
2. Kentucky. Solid pitching and hitting. Some of the lineup is starting to get long in the tooth. If they can stay healthy they will likely punch a wild card ticket.
3. Charleston – They are getting better as the rebuild progresses, but may be another season or two away. The pitching is developing nicely with Zhu, Goto and Kun comprising a solid core. The bullpen is a bit more of a worry.
4. New Orleans – The Trendsetters rebuild will likely not start til next year. They have a joke of a farm system. The saving grace will be that almost all big contracts end this year. Arnold is a solid starter who will lose a lot of 2-0 games.
5. San Antonio – Much like New Orleans, they are tearing it down. Also like New Orleans, almost all of their big contracts expire except for Chris Brown, who will be 38 before they can even think about shedding his salary.

Trans Atlantic
1. Amsterdam – This team is on the rise. Good young lineup and a good young rotation.
2. Scottish – This team has a good young core of hitters who are only getting better and they may have one of the best bullpens in the league. The rotation is a bit of a worry.
3. Havana – This team is starting to get old and they have to rely on players near the end of their prime to stay healthy to compete. They could very well pull it off or finish around .500.
4. Gloucester – Benigno Canseco is a solid prospect who is growing into his 6'4” frame and should produce more power this year. He will anchor this club. The rest will have to wait for the well-stocked farm system to produce,
5. San Juan – SS Gerald Contaldo will be a superstar, but not this year and the pitching is pretty much a wasteland of old, average arms. They do have a good farm system so the future is looking up.

Sovereign League

Great Lakes
1. Duluth – Solid all around. The age of their best hitters is a worry, Duluth could see their playoff hopes disappear onto the DL. If they stay healthy the division is theirs.
2. Kalamazoo – Good rotation that will keep them in the race. I predict Adam Geake to be a breakout star.
3. Fargo – With the young arms and bats they have coming up through the system they could rule atop the division for a few years, but that reign will not start until 2039 or 2040. Definitely a team to watch out for.
4. Madison – A young and developing team that is still a year away from contention for a wildcard.
5. Crystal Lake – They may not finish last, but they wont finish first and this team is old at the top. A two year deal for Castaneda was too much money, but its off the books in two years.

Desert Hills
1. Tempe - This may be a stretch, but Tempe has three good young arms on the cusp of stardom and a solid lineup with depth on the bench.
2. Aurora – A well rounded team with an excellent lineup, but it will have to make up for the lack of a star #1 starter.
3. Reno Aces – Solid up and down the lineup, but the staff is not very deep and an injury to Jose Ojeda would doom their season
4. Yuma – They have one or two hitters that make them better than Palm Springs and Bakersfield, good enough for the divisional “Best of the Rest” Award.
5. Bakersfield Bears. A lot of average players. This team is so average they could split a three game series.
6. Palm Springs Codgers – Yamamoto will be a difference maker for this team. But not this year. The rest are pretty much spare parts.

Rising Sun
1. Toyama – The lineup is just too good. While the pitching staff is not great, it is not weak and they could win a lot of 10-5 games.
2. Nihama-Shi – They will come closer to the division title than people expect. A solid lineup just entering their prime and a gaggle of pitchers that may break out this year
3. Okinawa – The best parts of their rotation are a year or two away and I predict Pablo Ortiz will start to see a decline.
4. Shin Seiki – While not a top talent team they are solid with very few weaknesses. They could easily finish above .500 and beat out Okinawa for 3rd place.
5. Neo-Tokyo – Too many bad contracts for players on the back end of their careers. Those contracts will look even worse as the season wears on. They need to restock the system and prepare for a few lean years.

Imperial League

Seaboard
1. West Virginia - The champs should take this division again, albeit with a little more competition than they are used to.
2. New Jersey - One of the teams that can naturally develop the most with young guys getting better. Going out and getting a top SS in Bang-xao You should be a game-changer for the infield.
3. Hartford - And very exciting young team that draws a bit of attention for having Goater. Monnington is an improvement defensively, and the continued development of Goater, Gorz, DeJean, Hernandez, etc will be key.
4. Arlington - A bit stagnant, and dependent on Raines & McCoy to carry this team. Felix Rodgriguez needs to be a key contributor as well.
5. Manchester - A quiet offseason after a rough 2037 spells the same for the Maulers. I liked the Hooper pickup to fill the DH role, but the real eyes will be on whether we see SP Jose Martinez make an appearance at some point in the season.

Dixie
1. Florida - Not much needs to be said, still the likely favorites to win it all.
2. Kentucky - An elite team that lost some decent names in the offseason but also pulled one of the biggest prizes in Roberto Rivera. Eyes on Dan Gore in his first full season of PEBA ball after a great half-season in 2037.
3. Charleston - The wave of top prospects is finally starting to make its appearance. Ding-bong Zhu should be arriving, and sophomores Wang-gi Kun and Maurice Page could take that next step up.
4. New Orleans - New GM, new Rebuild. Gallard could be fun to watch this season and the Ito/Albers signings are good foundational pieces to at least try to win some ballgames.
5. San Antonio - An aging team waiting for some big prospects to develop but are still years away.

Trans Atlantic
1. Scottish - Quite a bit of movement in the offseason, but still a good team. Daikawa potentially starting the year in PEBA could be big.
2. London - Didn't do too much in the offseason, but the young core is still intact. Hernandez, Nichols, & Osmond are the big names on this team and need to do well for London to do well.
3. Amsterdam - Always looks better than they perform somehow, Amsterdam retooled with some solid FA signings in Rodriguez and Aguilar while bringing back Cedeno.
4. Havana - After their worst season since 2022, the Leones are one of the spoiler teams that are good enough to take a series off a few of the big dogs. Maruyama may also make his PEBA debut as the #7 prospect has been torching the minor leagues.
5. San Juan - Still mostly the same team it's been in recent times. I like the cheap short-term deals for Fuentes and Romero as the Coqui wait for the farm to develop.
6. Gloucester - Much of the same for now, another team waiting for a glut of prospects to work their way through the system.

Sovereign League

Great Lakes
1. Crystal Lake - A bit of a surprise performance last year, Crystal Lake didn't lose anyone of note in the offseason and upgraded. Castaneda and Shorland are great pickups while Ruan, Cuevas, and Sanu form a solid young core.
2. Duluth - While losing Watson could hurt, I think Duluth's greatest strength is that they are fairly strong everywhere. I'd also expect Mora to have a bit of a rebound year.
3. Kalamazoo - A tight race with Duluth, Kalamazoo looks relatively the same plus the addition of Rodriguez. The health of Claudio Perez also a key factor.
4. Madison - Still a young team but lacking a few key players that can win you games.
5. Fargo - The rebuild rolls on with the top farm system in the league.

Desert Hills
1. Tempe - A young team that's developing as each season goes by. The addition of Pulsifer adds a true run producer and I think the rotation is deep enough to replace Barse who wasn't actually that great last season anyway.
2. Aurora - Probably the closest prediction, Aurora could easily be 1st. Replacing Castanieda with Kowalski is probably a side grade, maybe a downgrade depending on how the Northern Lights Park and the SL in general treat him.
3. Reno - Peba's perennial flip-flop team is on pace for a decent season. Reno re-tooled a bit in the offseason bringing in Rusanovsky, Torres, Castano, and more in a potential push for that new WC spot.
4. Palm Springs - Not much movement in the offseason, should sit around where they were last year.
5. Yuma - Almost put Yuma in 4th, until the sim Reaper reared it's ugly head. Losing Sun for most of the season is a huge loss, and the Pat Watson hospital punch card will likely be full again this year. But there's certainly some promise in this team.
6. Bakersfield - An aging core just hanging out to play ball while a healthy farm develops.

Rising Sun
1. Niihama - The downfall of Niihama has been blown massively out of proportion. Losing Leith hurts, but this team is stacked. You don't win the toughest in baseball without depth.
2. Toyama - Replacing Gonzalez with Barse, and Pulsifer with Chin is a downgrade, but not enough to drop out of this spot. The core is intact, and the young guns of Cabrera, Kouyama, and Aguilera have been making an impact.
3. Shin Seiki - Somehow SS has been getting underestimated as well which is a mistake. Gonzo will be booed on his return to Toyama.
4. Okinawa - A legitimate 4 horse race in the best division in baseball. Okinawa needed more to compete with the big boys so they went out and got just that. Aguilar during last season, Ramos, Oglethorpe, and relief help make this team a real threat.
5. The luckiest team in baseball. When rebuilding, what can be better than having 4 top teams in your division to ensure you get a solid draft pick.

2. New Jersey Hitmen
3. Hartford Harpoon
4. Manchester Maulers
5. Arlington Bureaucrats

Hard to see anyone topping West Virginia for the time being, there's just always so much talent that even injury doesn't get in the way. It's gross. New Jersey is building on the Shin Seiki model of continual cometitiveness and I love the way they've done it. Hartford has a couple enormous pieces. Manchester is still adding and Arlington is stripping it down.

Dixie
1. Florida Farstriders
2. Kentucky Thoroughbreds
3. Charleston Statesmen
4. New Orleans Trendsetters
5. San Antonio Calzones of Laredo

Florida remains nearly impossible to catch over the long haul. Kentucky remains a game second in the Dixie, but will have to contend with the rise of the Statesmen which is years in the making. I'm excited to watch all the prospects Charleston has been hoarding start to trickle up to the ML squad over the next 2-3 years. New Orleans is entering rebuild mode where San Antonio is already comfortably occupying.

Trans Atlantic
1. Scottish Claymores
2. London Underground
3. Amsterdam Lions
4. Havana Leones
5. San Juan Coqui
6. Gloucester Fishermen

The most competitive IL division, seemingly every year, I think the Claymores remain the team to beat as they have a unique and complementary roster structure. London has the pitching but i don't know if the offense will be game. Amsterdam is re-tooling on the fly but looks like it has enough talent to contend for a playoff spot and Havana isn't far off the pace, but is hamstrung by a few big contracts. San Juan is a few years away from being competitive again as James re-tools the roster which was the subject of neglect for a couple seasons.

IL Awards Winners
Royal Raker Winner: Gordon Knopp (FLA) - How can you pick against him at this point? If it were a question of Knopp or the field, I'd still take Knopp.
Golden Arm Winner: James McCoy (ARL) - Dynamite sophomore
Wunderkind Winner: Masahiro Maruyama (HAV) - My sleeper pick; Maruyama looks like a monster to step into Old Nick's long-vacant shoes.

Sovereign League
Great Lakes
1. Kalamazoo Badgers
2. Duluth Warriors
3. Crystal Lake Sandgnats
4. Fargo Dinosaurs
5. Madison Malts

A fine example of how top-to-bottom competitive the SL is, with the exception of Madison I wouldn't be surprised if any of these teams made a run. The Badgers might have the fewest holes, but Duluth retains a ton of elite talent, they just need to perform to their ratings. Crystal Lake took a noticeable step forward under some really good move-making by RJ, I think there's enough on the roster to make a playoff run. Fargo has enormous potential, much of it is closer to big league ready than you realize. Jay left the Malts in pretty good shape, and I think they're not far off from competing in the second most complete division in PEBA.

Desert Hills
1. Aurora Borealis
2. Tempe Apollos
3. Reno Zephyrs
4. Palm Springs Codgers
5. Yuma Arroyos
6. Bakersfield Bears

Whither Reno in an even year? I'd love to pick my Apollos, but I need to see them actually win the division before I'll believe they're capable. Steady Aurora remains the team to beat for 2038, and seem to have settled into a consistently 90ish win team which makes them hard to pick against. Reno rearranged a few deck chairs so it will be intriguing if they take a step forward this season. Palm Springs remains in meh mode until some more youngsters arrive, but has enough talent to outlast a closing Yuma. The Arroyos got stung hard in spring training, otherwise I'd have penciled them in for 4th. Bakersfield is waiting for their roster to age off so they can start to re-tool the big league club.

Rising Sun
1. Toyama Wind Dancers
2. Niihama-shi Ghosts
3. Okinawa Shisa
4. Shin Seiki Evas
5. Neo-Tokyo Akira

And baseball's best division present another pick-your-poison. I could make a strong argument for three teams to finish first and I don't think Shin Seiki is worse than a 90 win team, so... another bloodbath in the RS. I'll give the nod to Toyama based on their consistency and the injuries the Ghosts endured in Spring, but there's still a 100 win team in Niihama. Okinawa is my not-so-sleeper pick to ride Saitou's stub to a big October.

SL Awards Winners
Royal Raker Winner: Santiago Aranda (Niihama) - I wanted to pick someone off the radar and have a crush
Golden Arm Winner: Jose Ojeda (REN) - Possibly top 3 in the game, and still so young
Wunderkind Winner: Ryozo Kouyama (Toyama) - Hehe, say that 3 times fast.

Imperial League

Seaboard
1. Hartford — The Harpoons discover a new offensive tool: the bluff steal. Hartford fakes a stolen base more often than any other team in the PEBA, and the result is rattled pitchers, which leads to the Harpoons leading the league in HRs.
2. New Jersey — The Hitmen outplay even Hartford over the final month of the season, but their poor start leaves them in 2d place. The team was disturbed the first week of the season when FBI investigators began interviewing players about a possible gangland hit directed against David Goode, former manager and player for Yuma. The accusations leave the team rattled.
3. Manchester — The Maulers' hopes are dashed midseason when ace pitcher Spaceman Valera has his fortune read at the county fair. The palmist predicts plenty of problems for Valera, who then proceeds to fulfill those expectations.
4. Arlington — The Bureaucrats avoid the Seaboard basement only by legislative decree. With their connections on Capitol Hill, the Bureaucrats are blessed by a new law that makes it illegal for non-residents to jog or run in public after 8 pm.
5. W. Virginia — The Alleghenies are robbed of another shot at the PEBA championship when the Commissioner's advisory council find that the W. Virginia owner, Lan-quing Li, Jr., has been betting on his own team! The owner is banned for life and the team's sterling record of 54 wins and 27 losses is converted to 81 losses, no wins! The Alleghenies play catch up ball for the remainder of the season, winning 54 of their remaining 81 games.

Dixie
1. New Orleans — The Trendsetters ride the rubber arm of Slippery Joe Arnold to the playoffs, as Joe leads the league in GS, GC, K, BB, HRs allowed, Wins and Losses. He starts an incomprehensible 44 games, totaling 398 IP! He wins 25, loses 20.
2. Florida — The Fart-Riders goal of setting a new stolen base record falls flat on its face, as 278 Fart-Riders are thrown out stealing! The offense cannot overcome the deficit.
3. Charleston — The Statesmen have the highest ERA and the fewest HRs in the Dixie Division, but the best luck. When they lose, they lose BIG. But they win more often than they lose, usually by one run, resulting in a +.500 season.
4. Kentucky — The Thoroughbreds come up lame. They throw a shoe. Their fetlocks swell, the shins are bucked. The Horse Whisperer is of no help.
5. San Antonio — The Calzones get lost. When they break from spring training, half the team heads for San Antonio, half for Laredo. When each group discovers half the team is missing, they pack up and head for the other city, passing each other midway along I-35. They dilly-dally in the tiny town of Dilley but can never agree on which city they should be in. By the time the team sorts things out, they have forfeited too many games. Depression sets in. They challenge the Yuma record for losses in a single season, but fall short of that as well.

Trans Atlantic
1. London — The Underground build a new stadium, underground, at the end of a little-used Tube line. Visiting teams can rarely find their way to the ballpark, forfeiting most of their games in London. The Underground play .900 ball at home, only .500 on the road, but that's enough to lead a very tight division.
2. Gloucester — The Fisherman make a miraculous catch in the first week of the season, a talking fish, which, it turns out, knows more about baseball than Manager Victor Bruno. They listen to the fish, the team swims into the playoffs.
3. San Juan — The Coqui enjoy the intoxicating beverage the team is named for a bit too much: they are caught smuggling illegal substances into the U.S. The starting roster is jailed for a month while lawyers sort it out. The team never recovers.
4. Scottish — When the Scots finally vote for independence from Great Britain, the Claymores team got caught up in the celebrations. Several were arrested during the general mayhem, and the team lost a dozen or so games as a result.
5. Havana — The roar of los Leones is no longer heard in Cuba. The coup of the revolutionary army has successfully replaced President Diaz-Canel with a military triumvirate. Among the many changes they announced was the banning of all professional sports. The Leones had to forfeit the season as they searched for a new stadium, a new city and even a new country!

Sovereign League

Great Lakes
1. Crystal Lake — The Sandgnats lead the league in HRs, stolen bases and runs scored. Their pitchers strike out more batters than any other PEBA team. What happened? Colorado River Water happened.
2. Kalamazoo — The Badgers live up to expectations, though it wasn't easy. A midseason slump that cost them 13 straight lost games was brought to a musical ending when management struck on the brilliant idea of giving away kazoos at every game. The rude buzzing sound of 30,000 kazoos so unnerved the opposition that the Badgers snapped out of their slump with 10 straight wins and coasted into the playoffs.
3. Duluth — The Warriors were cold. The Great Lakes remained frozen until well into June. Fans didn't dare brave the cold to visit the stadium. The team played with gloves on inside their fielding mitts, mufflers around their necks and hot water bottles on the dugout benches. They were just too cold to perform well.
4. Madison — The Malts suffered from the same Great Lake Freeze, as it was called. Not only were the players affected, but the team's brewery struggled to make beer. The malt refused to mash, the grains to ferment. Everyone suffered.
5. Fargo — What can we say? Fargo, North Dakota, was closed until late in June. The President declared a National Disaster. The roads were ice, the runways could not be kept clear, train train tracks snapped from the sub-zero temperatures. The Dinosaurs had to play their home games in Cedar City, Utah, where baseball games are scheduled so as NOT to conflict with the summer Shakespeare Festival.

Desert Hills
1. Reno — The winds Mark Twain called "zephyrs" blow down the canyons into the Truckee Meadows, lifting fly balls out of Reno's stadium. Curiously, the winds seem to prefer fly balls by Reno's own hitters. Strange, but those winds will blow the Zephyrs into first.
2. Tempe — Though the Apollos have accused Yuman Beings of crimes against the Tempe team, it's Tempe's mistreatment of Yuma that seals the fate of both clubs. Tempe aspires to the Sun God, Yuma dries up and blows away.
3. Aurora — Will Topham has all the horses to ride roughshod over the rest of this league, but he is hobbled by a distracted Commissioner investigating gambling in West Virginia. Aurora never quite realizes its potential.
4. Palm Springs — The Codgers are suddenly younger than ever! They play ball like the kids they used to be. It's good enough for a .500 season.
5. Bakersfield — The Grizzly Bears of California are nearly extinct. The ball club named for them is heading for extinction too. You read it here first: Bakersfield will go bankrupt and move--lock, stock and bear traps--to more distant mountains.
6. Yuma — The Arroyos had a pitching staff to match any in the league until ... well, you know what happened. The Sun refused to shine, their owner languished in jail, the former GM retired before he lost his wits entirely, and the organization was run by women.

Rising Sun
1. Shin Seiki — The Evas made a series of brilliant trades with Yuma in the first weeks of the season, and every young player they gambled on had a career season. The Commissioner's Office is looking into possible collusion between Yuma and Shin Seiki.
2. Toyama — The Wind Dancers danced just fine. The Wind blew in a fortunate direction. The team made the playoffs again. But no one was happy. They expected to finish first, not 3 games behind the Evas!
3. Okinawa — The Shisa turned their baserunners loose, finishing second to Crystal Lake in stolen bases.
4. Neo-Tokyo — The Akira finished the season strong, pulling themselves out of the Rising Sun basement by hitting home runs at an unprecedented pace.
5. Niihama-shi — The Ghosts never saw the Rising Sun. They were, for most of the season, invisible to the rest of the league. One wit was overheard asking, "Do you believe in ghosts?" By season's end, few did.

PLAYOFFS CANCELLED!
By order of the Commissioner, PEBA's playoffs were cancelled after allegations of game fixing and gambling proved all too true. A Congressional Investigation revealed multiple teams implicated in fixing games, including several in the playoffs. After the findings of the Congressional Committee were published, PEBA Commissioner Mike Topham had no choice but to cancel the entire playoffs. He promised a thorough and on-going investigation into the specific individuals involved, with lifetime banishment from the PEBAverse the likely adjudication. "It is a far, far harder thing I do," the Commissioner said, "than ever I have done. It is a far, far better PEBA we will become."
