Where Zephyrs will roam
And the PEBA boys all come to play
Where seldom is heard
That baseball’s absurd
And the Sovereign Leaguers will say …
Home, home runs for us
The Imperialists are all bust!

As we move to the second inning we have our first substitution as ‘Lanza’, Aurora’s Victorio Guerra takes over on the mound for Kim, and he faces WV powerful ‘Cool Hand’…

Lucador shows patience and earns a walk on a 3-1 pitch…

Next up is the former-Neo-Tokyo star, Tomas Martinez, now of New Jersey, and he lifts a 2-2 pitch high to center - an easy play for Silva…

That brings up ‘Bananas’ - the Home Run Derby champ… Guerra focuses his attention on Oglethorpe, and on the pitch, Lucador takes off for second and steals it without a throw…

Oglethorpe then grounds one up the middle - it looks like an RBI single, but Esteban Rodriguez grabs it, leaps and fires to first for the second out, with Lucador taking 3rd…

That gives Claymore Juan Ramos a chance to drive in the first run, but Guerra fires one past him on a 2-2 pitch, to end the inning…

Heading to B2…

It will be New Jersey’s Orlando Trujillo taking over on the mound for the IL… and it will be ‘Dandy’ Herrera leading off for the SL…

And ‘Dandy’ delivers for the SL, lining a 2-2 pitch into short right-center for a lead off single…

That brings up his Warrior teammate, ‘Chief’ Velasquez… and the ‘Chief’ takes a 2-1 pitch and CRUSHES IT - 425' in right center field, at least a dozen rows up into the bleachers - giving the SL a 2-0 lead!

Niihama’s ‘Jaguar’ Esteban Rodriguez comes to the plate and he patiently works the count full before slashing one past Roberts, into right - the third straight hit off of Trujillo…

‘Footloose’ Salinas, the Wind Dancer outfielder - looking to join the party swings at the first pitch and skies it high behind second - with ‘Pooky’ racing in for the catch… one down…

That brings the SL back to the top of the order and ‘Otter’… Silva also swings at the first pitch, lining it towards the gap in left, but ‘Strum’ Knoop races to his right to make the running catch… two down…

Eng-hee Chin, the third hitter in a row to swing at the first rolls it to Gallo at short, with a short toss for the force at second… But its the SL on the board first…

The crowd goes wild in the top of the 3rd as Reno’s lone representative - Jose Ojeda comes out of the ’pen to pitch the 3rd for the SL…

Reno’s ace will face Amsterdam’s catcher Iwao Yamamoto to start the 3rd… and Iwao hits it sharply to Ortiz for the first out of the inning…

Next up is ‘Mounds’, the Scottish shortstop Antonio Gallo… Gallo takes a 2-2 pitch that is up in the zone and hits it high and deep to the opposite field - Juan Velasquez goes back, to the wall… AND MAKES THE CATCH!!

That brings up Gordan Knoop and the top of the order… Ojeda and Knoop play cat and mouse as the count gets full before Ojeda plays it safe and walks ‘Strum’…

Michael Roberts steps in, looking to extend the inning and drive in his Farstrider teammate… but before he can, Knoop takes off and easily steals second without a throw - giving Roberts a shot at cutting the lead in half…

But Ojeda comes back and strikes Roberts out swinging - much to the crowd’s delight as they roar to a standing ovation!!!

On to the bottom of 3…

Coming in for the IL is Manchester’s young star, Derek Valera to face Kevin Newton to begin the 3rd…

And right off Valera looks ragged as he walks the Wind Dancer on four pitches…

That brings up the powerful Ortiz… who lines a 1-strike pitch right through the mound for a single and the SL is in business again…

That brings up Scotty Weeks with a chance to make this a big inning for the SL… but ‘The Grinch’ swings at the first pitch - seemingly an epidemic thus far, grounding it to Gallo - to Roberts - on to first - DOUBLE PLAY!! with Newton taking third…

With two out now, it’s up to Antonio Herrera if the SL is to score… and Valera looks like he’ll get out of it, getting ahead of ‘Dandy’ 1-2, but the Warrior 3B lines it to center - Newton scores easily and the SL have a third run…

Juan Velasquez is up and also falls behind 1-2 - then lines it down the right field line - all the way to the wall - Herrera scores easily - all the way from first as ‘Chief’ rolls into second with an RBI double!!

Drew - Warriors
4:58 PM
Chief! Chief! Chief!

Yuma
:palm_tree: 4:59 PM
You Warriors and your chiefs!

Mike - Borealis

It’s 4-0 SL as the ‘Chief’ makes an early case for MVP and looks for Rodriguez to drive him home… And ‘The Celestial Jaguar’ does just that with an RBI double of his own that rattles off the wall in left… 5-0!!

Drew - Warriors

Mike - Borealis
And that looks like the end for Valera - an ugly All-Star performance for the Mauler… In comes Paddy Ladd of Gloucester to try to end the threat…

Ladd faces Salinas, looking for the final out… and he works the count full before fooling the Toyama outfielder - catching him looking at strike 3…

But it’s a 3-spot for the SL as we head to the 4th…

Coming in for the 4th is Wind Dancer starter Daniel Hernandez - as ‘El Toro’ starts off with Sandor Vis in the batters box…

Vis swings at the first pitch and skies it to center - Angel Silva barely moves as he makes the catch…

Francisco Lucador strides to the plate as the All-Star Mechanical Bull Riding Champ, hoping to get a rally started here… And after getting ahead 3-1 he OBLITERATES THE BALL!! HIGH INTO THE UPPER DECK IN LEFT-CENTER!!! It went so far they can’t figure out how far it went!! But the IL is on the board…

Yuma
:palm_tree: 5:11 PM
A little boy is running after the ball … there he is! He seems to have found--no, wait … OOPS! He’s fallen over the railing. Call the medics!

Mike - Borealis
Tomas Martinez looks to do the same as he swings at the first offering from Hernandez and lines it deep in the left-center gap, but ‘Footloose’ races and races into the gap - dives - AND MAKES THE CATCH!! Robbing Martinez of at least two bases…

Paul Oglethorpe is next and with the count 1-1 he smokes one right back at Hernandez - who snags the ball with the flare of a bull fighter, allowing ‘El Toro’ to end the inning…

But the IL is on the board as we head to the bottom of the 4th…

The Fishermen’s Paddy Ladd stays in to start the 4th and he’ll face the top of the order and Angel Silva… Aurora’s young Royal Raker candidate swings away at the first offering and pops it up to Lucador for the first out…

And with that, out of the IL ’pen comes San Juan’s Andrew MacElfrish…

And the Coqui pitcher will face the DH of Tempe, Eng-hee Chin… And Chin greats him by smoking his first pitch into center for a 1-out single…

Kevin Newton wastes his at bat, as he looks at three straight strikes and returns to the dugout with his head hanging…

MacElfrish looks excited on the mound as he stares in at Pablo Ortiz… Ortiz smiles back, but his vicious swing only nets a liner right at Knoop for the third out…

On to the 5th…

It’s wholesale change for the SL as we open the 5th - Watson (CF), Perez (C), Wallace (SS), Escamilla (1B), Tall (3B), Montoya (RF), Pedro Rodriguez (2B) and Torres (LF) and Fargo’s Jose Joje will take over on the mound for the SL…

Yuma
:palm_tree: 5:27 PM
Somewhere south in the burg of Yuma, a solitary fan watching on tv cheered, Torres!

Mike - Borealis
The Claymore’s Juan Ramos will be first to great the young Dinosaur star… and Ramos skims one to the right - Escamillas divess for it - grabs it and flips it to Joje covering - and he drops the ball - the first error of the game as Ramos is safe at first…

That brings Iwao Yamamoto to the plate… And Joje get’s him swinging at three straight pitches for the first out of the inning…

That brings up ‘Mounds’… and he loops one to right - fielded by Montoya - Ramos turns second and heads to third - Montoya with a strong throw - the tag - OUT!!! Montoya nails Ramos for the second out!!

With 2-down, it’s Roberto Garcia of the Scottish who comes out of the dugout to hit for ‘Strum’… and he lines the ball to left on the first pitch he sees, Gallo stops at second…

Coming out of the dugout is Jose Perez of Florida - it was expected to be Arlington’s Kaleb Felton, but we are getting word he’s been in the clubhouse with severe chills since the pre-game warmups… But Perez turns on the first pitch, ripping it down the right field line and it rolls al the way to the wall - Gallo scores, Garcia scores all the way from 1st - Perez cruises into second with a 2-run double - and it’s now 5-3…

Michael - Hitmen
5:36 PM
Come back brewing??

Mike - Borealis
5:38 PM
That brings up West Virginia’s Javier Drake to hit for Sandor Vis, with his former teammate John Lightbody, now of New Jersey already in the on deck circle warming up…

And Drake lines it past Robert Tall at 3rd, hugging the line - Yuma’s Alfredo Torres has nothing to do with the ball but throw it in to short - Perez scores, Drake chugs into second with an RBI double and it’s 5-4…

But it is Lightbody who puts the rally to bed as he pops it high and foul towards the first base dugout - Tempe’s Noberto Escamilla makes the grab and the inning is over - but what an inning for the IL…

Off to the bottom of 5…

It’s another Allegheny - this time Cheh Zhang and it’ll be on the mound for him as the 6th pitcher for the IL, with Juan Chavarria (RF), Pedro Macias (3B) Antonio Mesegue (C) and ‘Dr. Evil’ (SS) joining him on the field as subs for the IL…

It’s Niihama’s young 3B Robert Tall to lead it off for the SL… and he lines a 2-2 pitch past Perez for a lead-off single as the SL look to answer…

Barry Wallace - currently at Crystal Lake for the journeyman shortstop, is Cheh’s next challenge… but on a 1-1 pitch Tall breaks for second - Mesegue with a quick throw - GOT HIM!!!

Cheh works the count to Wallace to 1-2 before the Sandgnat lifts it gently to left, with Drake jogging in for the catch…

That brings up Eric Montoya, the Akira’s lone All-Star, for his first AB… Zhang once more gets a 1-2 count before Montoya lines one along the line - but not far enough for ‘Doppler’ to haul it in…

Mike - Borealis
Coming on to pitch the 6th for the SL is Palm Spring’s John Vazquez and the Codger will face Antao Crilanovich of Havana first… and Antao hits a looping liner to center - but Fargo’s Pat Watson hauls it in easily…

That brings up Juan Chavarria, the London Underground man… who hits a sinking liner to left that falls in front of Torres for a single…

Manchester Maulers’ Pedro Macias is up next… he works the count full before slowly rolling one to Tall - who comes in and fields it cleanly, but has but one play - out at first! Chavarria takes second…

Kentucky’s catcher, Antonio Mesegue is next - looking to tie the game for the IL… but he pops a 1-2 pitch high to the right of catcher - foul… Escamilla races in, calls off Claudio Perez and makes the catch for the third out…

We head to the bottom of the 6th…

It is San Antonio’s Jorge Alvarez who will pitch the 6th for the IL and he’ll face Okinawa’s Pedro Rodriguez to start the B6…

And Pedro shows great patience and restraint as the count goes full and he watches a tight pitch go by for ball four…

That brings to the plate the Arroyos’ Alfredo Torres - the Yuman’s lone All-Star… and Alvarez walks him on four pitches - and the Calzone is in deep trouble of his own making at the ‘Man of Glass’ - Pat Watson comes to the plate…

With a 3-0 count, Watson shows bunt - but pulls the bat back as ball four crosses the plate - 3 batters, 3 walks for Alvarez and it’s looking dicey for the IL…

Pinch-hitting for Chin is the Sandgnats River McCausland, long-time outfielder for Crystal Lake… AND HE’S HBP - and Rodriguez scores…

That brings up Claudio Perez - but it will be New Orleans Trendsetter Hideo Miura whom he will face as he tries to put out the 4-alarm fire that Alvarez left…

Reg - Trendsetters
6:05 PM
fingers crossed for Miura

Mike - Borealis
:grimacing:
:see_no_evil:

With the infield in, the strong Perez wiggles his bat… swings… Lifts it High… Lifts it Deep… Chavarria to the wall… OUTTA HERE!!! A GRAND SLAM FOR CLAUDIO PEREZ!!! A 385' towering drive that just gets over the wall in right center and it’s suddenly a 10-4 lead for the SL…

Reg - Trendsetters
6:06 PM
Screenshot_20230209_220551_Chrome.jpg

Mike - Borealis
Then Tempe’s Escamilla lines it right back at Miura, who looks like Charlie Brown as he avoids the ball… with the Tempe 1B stopping at first…

Robert Tall’s turn next and he drives it Far… Deep…. Drake to the fence… and MAKES THE CATCH!!! Quickly he fires it in - with Escamilla happy to stay at first…

Miura redeems himself - somewhat, as he get’s Wallace to roll it in the hole at second - but Perez nabs it, whilrs a throw to second - ‘Dr. Evil’ fires the throw to first - DOUBLE PLAY!!! And the inning is over…

Bakersfield’s Jonathan Andrews will come on for the SL and it’s Naomi Homna - ‘Dr. Evil’ up first…

Andrews get’s a strike on Homna before he grounds one hard to first - but an easy play for Escamilla for the first out…

It’s the Scottish’s Roberto Garcia up next, and on a 2-0 pitch Garcia hit’s it high… Hits it Deep… HITS IT OUTTA HERE!!! over the left field wall - 376' into the bleachers in left as Torres gives it a try - but it’s clearly into the stands - that’s a 5th run for the IL…

Next up for the IL is Jose Perez… and on a 2-2 pitch, Andrews get’s him swinging… And that looks like it willl be all for Andrews as Ernest Middleton of Kalamazoo is coming in from the ’pen…

Middleton’s first batter is ‘Doppler’, who digs in and waits… Drake grounds a tough ball down the first base line, but Escamilla grabs it and take it to the bag himself this time for the 3rd out…

It’s the 7th inning stretch here at Washoe Field in Reno, Nevada…

Manchesters Michael Henderson is on for the IL in the 7th and he’ll face Eric Montoya to start the inning…

Montoya offers at the first pitch and grounds it slowly to short - Homna races in - fires to first for the out…

Now in, hitting for Rodriguez is Kalamazoo infielder Alexander Craig… Craig works the count full, but hits a 2-hopper right at Perez for out number 2…

Henderson also works the count full to Torres, who grounds it towards the middle, but Perez is there, snaps the throw to first to end a quick 1-2-3 inning for the Maulers closer…

On to the 8th, with the IL’s chances diminishing…

t will be the ‘Werewolf’ to start the 8th - Aurora’s Toshikuni Kichida, but probably for just an out as Madison’s Pedro Molina is warming up in the ’pen…

John Lightbody strides to the plate… Kichida gets ahead with a strike before Lightbody grounds it to Escamilla, who easily scopes it up and beats the speedy Hitman to the bag for out number 1…

And indeed… Here comes Molina… And it’s the ‘Iron Curtain’, Crilanovich to greet Molina… And on a 3-1 pitch, Molina walks him…

Next up it’s Chavarria… and on a 3-1 pitch, Molina walks him - creating a rally for the IL as they look to make a dent on the 5-run deficit…

Pedro Macias swings at the first pitch - right at Escamilla - who throws to second for the second out - but Wallace can’t get the ball out of his glove for the return throw - keeping the inning alive…

Antonio Mesegue takes a strike - the grounds it to Wallace - this time he can get the ball out of his glove - and flips it to Craig at second to retire the side…

Charleston’s Noboru Imai will come on here in the 8th and it’s Niihama’s Angel Franco leading off for the SL…

Imai gets Franco 1-2 - and Franco is caught looking at strike three…

With the 5-run deficit, the IL brings in Sotatsu Kobayashi of Hartford to face River McCausland…

Kabayashi get’s McCausland 1-2 before River lifts one to right, hauled in by Chavarria…

And once again the IL goes to the ’pen and it’s London’s closer - Norm Batstone… and the Underground Man faces perhaps the man of the match - Claudio Perez, who’s grand slam is really the difference in the game…

Batstone makes the most of his batter - going full on Perez before getting him to ground it to Lightbody for the 3rd out…

And it’s on to the 9th - last chance for the IL…
