Brad Davis becomes 2nd player to record 3000 hits

The milestone hit was a leadoff single against the Havana Leones in the 2nd inning off of starter Ricardo Rico. Once he got close to 3000, Davis didn't wast anytime getting there. Hit number 3000 was the 7th straight time he had reached base, going 6 for 6 with a walk in his previous 7 plate appearances. At age 40, Davis is showing no signs of slowing down at the plate, he is hitting .310 with a .410 On Base Percentage in 36 games so far this year. Rumour has it that he wants to play at least 3 more seasons and if he keeps hitting like he has lately he may have a few 100 more hits left in him. Next up for Davis is the PEBA all time hit record of 3026 held by Rob Raines. Davis is already the career leader in singles (1935), doubles (622) and at bats (10557). His 404 home runs put him at 9th on the career leaderboard while his 1537 RBI put him 3rd on the list. Not bad for a guy whose work ethic was questioned early in his career.

Davis was born in Evergreen Wisconsin and played his high school baseball with the West Lauderdale Knights. He was drafted straight out of high school, 14th overall way back in 2014 by West Virginia. He spent 12 very productive seasons with a very good West Virginia team before he was traded to the Hartford Harpoon. Despite making the playoffs 7 times with with W.V. he never won a PEBA championship. In a cruel twist of fate, West Virginia won the title in 2030, the year after he was traded. After being traded by W.V, Davis bounced around a little. He spent 2 seasons with Hartford, before being dealt as part of a massive deal to Amsterdam. After 1 year of with the Lions he elected to go to free agency and he signed a 1 year deal with the Ghosts. Midway through the season the Ghosts traded him to Bakersfield and after the season he became a free agent again.
Kentucky scooped him up with a huge 3 year 70 million dollar deal and he still remains with the Thoroughbreds, in the last year of that contract.

Davis has played in the postseason a whopping 12 seasons but has never won a PEBA title. If Kentucky makes the playoffs this season as it looks like they will, will this be lucky number 13 for Davis? Despite all the lofty numbers, Davis has only been named to the all-star team twice in his 19 PEBA seasons, but in his 2 seasons in which he won the platinum stick award for first base he did not make the all-star team. Davis has been very consistent throughout his career, but 2022 was his most productive - he hit .311 with 33 homers and 115RBI and finished 2nd that season in the IL Royal Raker Award voting.
Despite the lack of individual awards and championships, Davis has had a remarkable career and should be a lock for the Hall of Fame. He still has a few more seasons left in him - it will be very interesting to see how high his totals are when he decides to retire.
