The Bureaucrats Triplicate: An April Retrospective

#1 Post by Bureaucrats »

14-8 in April 2036. 15-11 overall on the season.

A marked improvement from 2035, where we started on the back foot and never regained our balance. 2.5 games out of 1st in the IL Seaboard yet tied for a Wildcard spot with 2 other teams. Let's look over the team and look at the key players, position by position, and see what they can do to sustain it.

Catchers:

We begin by viewing the rotating names with Agostinho Bessy and Harley Board. While Board has been with the team the past couple years, dating back to 2034, Bessy is a fresh face who is also somewhat older than Board, and hopefully can serve as a mentor for him. Bessy spent the better part of 6 seasons (concurrently) with New Orleans, hitting at replacement level but providing enough oomph in his bat to make himself a valuable part of the team. However, while the past is a great scope to look through, the present is where we should be looking.

C Agostinho Bessy

Bessy has greatly contributed to the offense. Being 1st in HR on the team with 6 and 2nd in team RBIs with 14 is massive for a team that has struggled in the past to offensively produce in the month of April's past. Signed as a minor league free agent in 2035 and just now making his 'Crats debut this season. It seems the Front Office saw something in him, what with his catcher ability and his leadership capabilities, who could be a good mentor for the younger Board.

C Harley Board

Board, despite his regular place in the lineup these past few years, has struggled offensively in season's past. To see him hit as he has thus far is encouraging. Bessy and Board are, at least by scouting reports, are very similar behind the dish, but at the plate is considered a weaker hitter than Bessy. However, his 9 RBI is a decent start and his eye as a hitter should allow him to not strike out as much and be a competitive at bat.

Infielders:
1B Tony Barron

A very late addition to the roster, Barron has proved to be the better 1B we've had in a while. Proven a stalwart gloveman and with a bat to back it up, Barron is hitting extremely well to start, one of the few unqualified hitters hitting above .300. Excellent pickup, and we look forward to seeing more from him

2B Kaleb Felton

Steady as ever, Felton looks to be having a great start to the season. Leading the team in batting average, On-Base Percentage, Hits, and Doubles, he his everything we need him to be thus far. His hard work clearly pays off, and we love him.

3B Rien Leeuwenburgh

What can we say but holy cow, what a glow up! Rien has been a stalwart presence in the lineup and has proven invaluable this season, especially with the departure of Adrian Fuentes. He will be something special this season we feel, and we cannot wait for his continued success.

Outfielders:

LF Felix Rodriguez

Another late addition to the roster, F-Rod has had a slow go so far. Finally coming over the Mendoza line as of late, he's been very reliable with the glove, and has walked a ton, to the tune of 24 times (5 more than his strikeouts!). He may not have a ton of extra base hits as of now, but he's always fun to watch, and the fans have shown that with the jersey sales. You barely can swing a dead cat without hitting someone wearing one!

RF Shane Willis

Shane has been exceptional this year, to the tune of being 3rd in team batting average. He's one to always keep an eye on, as he leads the team in stolen bases with 8. Real fun to have, and it's especially encouraging that we have him for another 4 years after this year.

RF Lorenzo Valdez

Signed as a total unknown, which carries it own risk, has been a welcome addition as well. Slow to adapt to PEBA pitching, Valdez has truly begun to come into his own. Currently on a 5 game hitstreak, he's shown he can have the hot hand, and his presence in the outfield, while a small sample size, has shown a great aptitude and should see more time in the field.

Pitchers:

SP Sa-Yoor Chang

Young, talented, and outright dominating so far, Chang has reportedly added a Knuckle Curve to his ammo bag this offseason, and it shows in his performance. Leading the team in all categories for pitchers, Chang looks to be a part of the team for a long time, and we welcome him with open arms. Now, if only the rest of the rotation could just pick him up every now and then...

And....that's it! The team is certainly performing well, and we wait with bated breath if they can sustain it!
