#1 @ London Underground 4-0

Miguel Torres

It may not have been perfect but it wasn't far of, the top 6 in the line up came away with hits. Jorge Flores was one of the 3 that didn't get an hit but got on base with a walk, it was Miguel Torres who was the star of the game though with a shut out through 8 innings giving up only 5 hits from 95 pitches whilst striking out 6. The cherry on the top was Ash Thompson coming in for the 9th and finishing the Underground of in 6 pitches.

The Calzones may not have troubled the scorers in the 1st but they made the Undergrounds Luis 'Montecristo' López throw 24 pitches, London didn't trouble Torres though as he only threw 11 pitches in a 3 up 3 down inning.

Again the Calzones didn't score but had López throw 22 pitches which had them eating into the stamina of the Underground's starter, Torres wasn't having such problems though pitching only 5 pitches in another 3 up 3 down inning. The

The 3rd was uneventful for both teams with López and Torres with López facing 3 and Torres facing 4 with Freddy Hernández getting on base with a double but getting no further.

The Calzones scored the first run of the game in the 4th when
Luis Cedeño reached on a single then 2nd on a wild pitch then 3rd and home on a Luis Antonio Aguilera single. Torres did give up a couple of hits but the runs still remained a big zero.

López was getting into the game as he held the Calzones to a 3 up 3 down inning in the 5th, Ed Black of London got on base with a single but Torres took care of the rest to end the inning with San Antonio still 1-0 up.

It was the top of the 6th that blew the game open Derrick Dwyer got on base with a single, he advanced to 3rd on a Yasunari Fujihara single. It did look as though the Calzones would miss there scoring opportunity when Luis Cedeño popped up to 1st and Luis Antonio Aguilera struck out swinging that was until Gilberto Fernández came to bat, Fernández by his standards had a quiet season until on a 0-1 count sent a deep fly ball into the rightfield bleachers to make the score 4-0 to the Calzones.

Despite a couple of singles by the Calzones in the 7th and London in the 8th with a San Antonio Luis Cedeño double in the 8th the damage had been done in the 6th by Fernández.

Thompson came into the 9th and dispatched the Underground with ease, he took care of Luis Cervantes on 1 pitch with a 4-3 groundout. Graham 'Doc' Ainsley lasted just the 1 pitch when the ball nestled into the mitt of outfielder Edwards in left, Juan León did last a bit longer but struck out swinging on 1-2 count to end the inning and game.

George Farleigh

San Antonio had no answer for London Underground starter George Farleigh, who flummoxed Calzones of Laredo hitters as the Underground cruised to victory, 8-1. San Antonio falls to 8-11.

The Underground got a big boost from right fielder Raúl Padilla who had a 2-run single in the bottom of the sixth inning off Calzones of Laredo hurler Dan Stockstill. It was his 14th hit of the season and put London on top, 3-1.

"Good win for our guys," said Farleigh.
