The PEBA Society for Grammatical Grammar finally achieves a quorum at its annual meeting and immediately votes to censure the Claymores for a non-grammatical name. The Grammatical Grammarians write the Claymores’ owner a scathing letter demanding the word “Scottish” be changed to “Scotland” because “Scottish” is an adjective and, grammatically speaking, you can’t refer to the Scottish. Not surprisingly, the Scottish ignore the Grammatical Grammarians and finish last.
1. Kentucky
2. New Orleans
3. Charleston
4. Florida
5. San Antonio Laredo
The state of Texas is overwhelmed by the arrival of a new strain of the Corona virus, COVID 31, which is contagious only to professional athletes. The Dallas Cowboys have to cancel their entire season when the entire offensive line is stricken. The Spurs are able to assemble a team of substitutes as their starting 5 is quarantined for months. And the San Antonio Calzones, who spend most of their time playing in Laredo, not San Antonio, nearly escape the virus. Only the starting pitchers are afflicted. Though San Antonio finishes last, they remain intact as a ball club. Feeling fortunate, the ownership decides to permanently remove the name San Antonio from the club, and thus the Laredo Calzones become the team’s official name.
1. Manchester
2. Hartford
3. Arlington
4. West Virginia
In the strangest of reversals to hit the PEBAverse in 2031, the 2030 champions from West Virginia find themselves in the basement of their division. Because the division is so competitive, the Alleghenies finish just 4 games out of first, but 4 games means last place as Manchester, Hartford and Arlington all finish the season tied with winning records. Owner Lan-Quig Li Jr. can’t figure it out, firing one manager after another as the season progresses. At one point, having fired his third or fourth manager and unable to hire anyone in time for the day’s game, Li decides to step in and manage the club himself. West Virginia loses the next 4 games in a row, until, out of desperation, Li hires former Yuma Acting GM Pam Postema to serve as manager, thereby finally integrating the PEBA dugout with a female. Postema pulls the club out of its tailspin and the Alleghenies play better than .500 ball for the remaining weeks of the season, pulling within 4 games of first, but no closer. A three-way, round-robin playoff is scheduled, but first Hartford and later Arlington refuse to play the Maulers because of a rumor circulating the PEBAverse that Manchester deliberately inoculated the San Antonio Spurs with COVID 31, hoping the disease would spread from one San Antonio professional team to another. Alas, the Maulers seemed not to know that the San Antonio Calzones played their games in Laredo.

5. K’zoo
The newly christened Madison Malts open the season selling beer as if it were going out of style. Then it does. When a CDC study shows that the COVID 31 virus is preserved in beer for up to 3 years, and propagates in the linings of hops-soaked bellies, the beer market in the US crashes and hops-based alcoholic drinks are no longer available for sale. The Madison baseball club panics and considers returning to Canton, then less beer-soaked heads prevail and the club quickly rebrands itself. Still the Madison Malts, their logo now shows a large mug of root beer, and root beer sales skyrocket at the ball park. The other teams in the Great Lakes Division take a less creative approach to the demise of beer and order bottled water for their players. The largest distributor of bottled water in the US is the Colorado River Water Company based in Yuma. As the season progresses and Madison’s players drink their root beers while the rest of league sucks down Yuma water, Madison begins winning and the others start losing. No cause of the sudden decline of Crystal Lake or the other teams can be identified, but several teams around the league begin pointing fingers at the Yuma bottling factory. Investigations continue.

The earth’s magnetic poles are always shifting slightly, but recently a more dramatic movement has been detected. Scientists worry that this may presage a dramatic reversal of the poles, something that hasn’t happened in roughly 780,000 years. Reversals have been linked to mass extinctions by some scientists, but others contend that magnetic reversals take so long (between 2 and 120 thousand years) that little or no effect upon lifeforms is likely. Still, something is needed to explain the sudden reversal of fortune in the Rising Sun league, and magnetic drift is as good a theory as any.
1. Reno
2. Palm Springs
3. Aurora
4. Yuma
5. Bakersfield
The Rise of Reno! The Zephyrs are blowing the PEBA wide open! Destined for greatness, this club will roar down the Sierra Crest and blast the opposition off the coast of California. Even Palm Springs’ budding hegemony has to wait one season while Reno rises and converges. Bakersfield bears the brunt of Zephyr blasts, sitting just east of the southern Sierras, while the remote cities of Yuma and Aurora feel only a stiff breeze. Palm Springs, on the eastern side of the Sierra extension into Southern California, is least affected by the Winds of Washoe, but even the young and studly Codgers can’t keep up with Nevada’s Nimbus Windfall! Blow, boys, blow!
Postseason
While Amsterdam and Kentucky try to provide some opposition to Manchester’s viral victories, it matters not one wit what happens in the Imperial League because this year belongs to the Sovereign League’s juggernaut ballists from Reno. The Zephyrs blow their way past everyone, undefeated, to breeze to their first ever PEBA championship!

Re: 2031 Predictions!
Imperial League
Seaboard
1. West Virginia
2. Hartford
3. Arlington
4. Manchester
A blow out race, barring every member of the Alleghenies spending weeks on the DL - early Vegas odds for that sit at 4-1 (improved health care in WV has raised the odds)... Hartford had their soul (and offense) bleed out, but they still have a bit more talent than Arlington... The Maulers will be better... right?
Dixie
1. Kentucky
2a. San Antonio
2b. New Orleans
2c. Florida
5. Charleston
Kentucky has become a solid force in the IL and they seem the cream of the crop here... San Antonio, New Orleans and Florida could finish in a tie for all I know - each is flawed, and I'm not buying the money Florida threw around is enough to make a difference - and I don't think Luppe can do it all by himself... Speaking of tossing some lettuce around, San Antonio probably made the biggest additions in all the right places, save one - on the mound. If they can parlay some of their capital into some quality arms, this race could change quickly... Don't sleep on the Trendies - they may have the most balanced team in the division not named after a race horse... Charleston's bad luck is having to be in the division with the other four teams - playing in either other division would give them an outside shot at a wild card, but they don't, so they won't
Trans Atlantic
1. Havanna
2. San Juan
4. Amsterdam
3. Scottish
5. London
Havana's choke-hold continues, but it is a tenuous one... Both San Juan and a vastly improved Amsterdam team have made some shrewd moves and as goes Havana's pitching (Has Vasquez shown some cracks? Will Romano pitch into his 50's?), so go the Leones... Scotties & Undies will battle it out for the cellar, likely as far from 3rd as 3rd may finish from first...
IL Awards Winners
Royal Raker Winner: Luis Cedeno (SA) - Assuming the Calzones stay in the race and he doesn't get bored with losing...
Golden Arm Winner: JT (AMS) - he thanks the Borealis for the early rehab work in the 2030 SL playoffs - and looks forward to a personal rematch with the Alleghenies...
Wunderkind Winner: 'Jim VII' (NO) - He no longer needs to fear the Rule 5 draft...
Sovereign League
Great Lakes
1. Crystal Lake
2. Fargo
3. Madison
4. Duluth
5. Kalamazoo
Crystal Lake and Fargo will put up a season long battle this time, and the Green and Gold dipterans come out on top... Madison seems the stronger club of the three, even though Duluth has the 'bigger names' - I wouldn't be surprised if this finishes the opposite... K-zoo is moving in the right direction, but they've still have a bit of a mountain to climb...
Desert Hills
1. Aurora
2. Palm Springs
3. Reno
4. Bakersfield
5. Yuma
It is the 25th Anniversary of the PEBA, and in the previous 24 seasons, Aurora has not won the division for more than 2-years at a time (twice) - that trend will miraculously continue; though the Codgers won't make it easy... Don't be super shocked if Reno up and grabs this division - they are much like San Antonio - give them some pitching and they are a serious threat... Bakersfield just hasn't done enough to show that limping into the playoffs with the Borealis at their side last year isn't more than they have this year... Yuma...
Rising Sun
1. Shin Seiki
2. Toyama
3. Neo-Tokyo
4. Okinawa
The Evil Evas are the Evil Evas for a reason - they are difficult to kill, but it does feel like they are slipping back to the pack - much as Aurora finally did. They may also still be the cream of the SL, so take that with a grain of salt... the Win-D's have improved and are very close to making this a two-team race to the end - might that be this year? Neo-Tokyo still has too much talent to not be taken seriously, and last year may have been a fluke - a three team race is not out of the question - nor is an Akira upset... Okinawa seems to have fallen backwards over the past couple of years - the Bothwell trade kinda killed their hearts...
SL Awards Winners
Royal Raker Winner: Steve Boyer (REN) - Might he break his own record?
Golden Arm Winner: 'Nitro' (CL) - If he can stay healthy...
Wunderkind Winner: John Pulsifer (TOY) - Toyama felt enough about this guy to trade Gonzalez - and he will repay their faith...

Re: 2031 Predictions!
I just want to clarify, that is the commentary out of the GMs office of the Aurora Borealis, and is independent of the Commissioner and his Office.
The official opinion of the Commissioner would sound something like this:
"It is the 25th Anniversary of the PEBA, and ... Yuma... and... yeah..."
