Hall of Fame: Voting, Selections Discussion
We have our Inaugural Hall of Fame Class:
Markus 'Fireworks' Hancock, Rob Raines, Manuel 'Mayor' Corona, and, of course, John Rodriguez, Sr.
Use this thread to discuss the vote, the results, and wax poetic about these players - as you see fit!

Re: Hall of Fame: Voting, Selections Discussion
I am, of course, surprised that we didn't have any unanimous selections. I would think that if anyone would be elected unanimously, Hancock or Raines would fit that bill. They're just so far beyond any other pitcher or hitter in my mind that they seemed like the first names everyone would check off. Maybe some folks figured they didn't need their vote. Morimoto, who's 2nd all time in career hits, could have another 654 HR's and still not have as many hits as Raines.Borealis wrote: ↑Tue May 19, 2020 3:09 pm The Voting results for the 2030 Vote:

24 - 85.7 - Rob Raines
21 - 75.0 - Manuel “Mayor” Corona

20 - 71.4 - Pat Lilly
20 - 71.4 - Conan McCullough
19 - 67.9 - Chris “Moondog” York
17 - 60.7 - Tsumemasa Morimoto
11 - 39.3 - Gunner “Clubhouse” MacGruder
9 - 32.1 - Dean “Fate” O'Monahan
7 - 25.0 - Steve McDonald

4 - 14.3 - Víctor "Alibi" Matos
3 - 10.7 - Jorge “Putt-Putt’” Aguilar
3 - 10.7 - Jeff Cline
3 - 10.7 - Merlin Peters
3 - 10.7 - Cory Pierce
2 - 7.1 - George Riley
1 - 3.6 - Wilson Berry
0 - 0.0 - Pat Holman
I also am pleasantly surprised at the number of down ballot votes. Only Pat Holman got no votes... which will make him an interesting trivia answer many years from now. Not that I can take any credit for the down ballot votes... I tend to vote small ballots. I wouldn't be surprised to eventually see any of the players who got 6 or more votes eventually get in, and none of them would bother me one bit. The only one that I was a little surprised got as much love as he did was Steve McDonald.
Between them, George Riley (3) and Yoshino Miyata (4) hold the single season franchise record for walks for 7 different teams.

Re: Hall of Fame: Voting, Selections Discussion
Years ago when I was running crystal lake I thought for sure Nelson Anderson would be the first player I’d tick off for the hall... I was mildly surprised that despite my inherent bias when voting I couldn’t bring myself to cast a vote for him, though the guys who started their careers at PEBA’s inception were certainly playing catch up given their short shelf life. If we have a couple lean years on the ballot my emotions might get the better of me and both Anderson and Merlin (who for those that didn’t see him in his prime was unbelievable) would be fair game for inclusion.
As for the others, I thought Raines, Hancock, and Lily would be no doubters so I’m shocked that Lily didn’t get in. Again, he suffered from playing so long ago and not having the length of a career which would have led to higher counting numbers. I’m hopeful he’ll get in next go ‘round. Lily was Rob Raines before Raines. I personally also voted for Moondog who was an absolute meteor for half a dozen seasons (with tremendous career numbers to back up his candidacy) as well as McCullough and Corona. I can’t remember now if I voted for Morimoto, and I think he’s a viable candidate, if a bit one dimensional.

I am a little surprised how small the first class is. I was expecting at least twice this many.
Morimoto excluded?
Who the heck did not vote for Hancock or Raines?!?

I could tell, but I won't divulge key details such as that - anonymity is the rule... now those who didn't are free to discuss their reasons...
That said, I was surprised...

Re: Hall of Fame: Voting, Selections Discussion
I will admit that I am kinda a bad voter when it comes to HoF. Add in that I am still very new here and I didn't really put a lot of time into researching and comparing the stats, my ballot is probably questionable. Rob Raines is pretty much the only one I know off-hand as that man was still a player when I first came here. I do believe I did indeed voted for all three HoFers though, so that's not on me.

All I can figure is that we have some newer people in the league who didn't know of these guys in their primes. SHOCKED that Pat Lilly didn't get in.

Hopefully those Keltner list articles that Frank so thoughtfully wrote/encouraged help spark some additional consideration for candidates this year.
