Edinburgh, Scotland – This was the week of the big trade: OF Pat Barry to Bakersfield for SP Neil Maes and OF Dave Yarbrough.
A labor dispute involving air traffic controllers grounded international flights, though, so neither player could make it to Havana last week for the series against the Leones, meaning the Scottish played short-handed.
Was it catastrophic? Did it urge them to greater efforts, not unlike the charge of the light brigade?
Well, no. It was more of the same old, same old: a dispiriting 3-4 week in which the Claymores dropped the deciding game of their home series with Havana, split a series with Arlington, and then split 4 games at San Antonio.
So, they ended the week 7 games under .500 and 16.5 games behind Trans Atlantic leader Havana.
