The Scottish got a strong outing from Orlando Moya, a bullpen arm thrown into the starting rotation due to injuries as Scotland downed Charleston 5-3. Moya went 8.0 innings, allowing 11 hits and 3 runs, with no walks and no strikeouts. His PQS score: 2 … DH Tony Figueroa had a key hit in the top of the 4th, a double that drove in 2 runs and provided the winning margin … Player of the Game: Orlando Moya … Cliché of the Game: "It was a solid team effort," he said after the game.

Charleston jumped on Scottish starter Carlos Pérez for 3 runs (2 earned) as the Statesmen cruised to a 5-1 victory … Pérez threw 6.1 innings and allowed 5 hits and the 3 runs, while striking out 3 and walking 5. PQS score: 2 … RF Jorge Flores had two hits, including a double, while CF Teruo Nagai was 2-3 with a run scored … Player of the Game: Kokei Yamashita, Charleston SP, who went 5.2 innings, allowing 5 hits, 1 run, 1 walk and 2 Ks. His PQS score: 3 … Cliché of the Game: "It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Charleston manager Alberto Álvarez. "It's usually not just one thing." This, clearly, is why they pay Álvarez the big digital bucks …

Statemen SP Dave Parkinson shut down Scotland’s offense to take the rubber game of their 3-game series by a 2-0 score Sunday night. Parkinson went 5.0 innings and allowed 0 runs, 2 hits and 2 walks while striking out 6. His PQS score: 4 … On the other side, Scottish SP Francisco Robles also threw well, going 6.1 innings while allowing 7 hits, 2 runs and 0 walks while striking out 4. His PQS score: 3 … Charleston scored the only runs of the game in the bottom of the third on 4 singles and a double play … Player of the Game: Dave Parkinson … Cliché of the Game: None. Guess taking the series left ‘em speechless.

The Skinny: Charleston flipped the script on Scotland this time out. The Claymores took 2 of 3 from the Statesmen in Edinburgh, but Charleston returned the favor this time out. Scotland missed Vincent Powell’s bat this series as he recovered from a strained oblique and his replacements didn’t do much. Scotland is scuffling out of the gate … luckily, the rest of the division is struggling a bit, too. The Claymores can't count on that indefinitely, though. Time to start playing some decent baseball, boys!

FYI - I put in links to the teams in the first item rather than to every individual player. I'd rather write and post more stories than spend the time putting in player links for TN pieces ...
