In the face of such disasters, the PEBA Commissioner cancels the playoffs. The league morns its losses and promises to rebuild, reassemble, and replay the entire season next year.
I think 'Harry' Castle would never cancel the playoffs entirely - He is still kinda, sorta, undah da table, on the Golden Entertainment payroll, so he'd probably just crown Aurora champs....

Imperial League

Seaboard
1. West Virginia - Everyone will be watching Javier Drake, but don't sleep on Ronald Turton, he will prove to be a key pickup.
2. Hartford - Brad Davis and Clayton Lewis are aging vets, but they'll take a bit of the load off Luis Cedeno.
3. Arlington - Hatsutori's been lights out this spring, and he'll need to stay healthy if they're to have any chance.
4. Manchester - Matthias Ouellette is the delightfully named best player for the Maulers.

Dixie
1. Florida - They've won once for every 5 postseason trips... it's year #5.
2. Kentucky - They'll do just enough to keep the Trendsetters behind them, but the postseason magic won't be there this time around
3. New Orleans - They don't yet have the pitching to match up with the division heavyweights, but could a trade or FA acquisition change that?
4. San Antonio - They're going to be a thorn in the side of many contenders.
5. Charleston - Cleve Douglas quietly finished 5th in the IL with 39 saves last year.

Trans Atlantic - IMO, Havana seems a lock, but the rest is the toughest division to pick top to bottom
1. Havanna - Pez's FIP has gone down each of the past 3 seasons, and he's only 25.
2. San Juan - I think they can make a move to wrest the #2 slot from Scottish
3. Scottish - They lose out in a tight race to the Coqui. Injuries derail the rotation.
5. Amsterdam - Love me some Antonio Santos.
4. London - Felix Reyes hasn't taken the next step some were hoping for.

IL Awards Winners
Royal Raker Winner: Claudio Hernandez (HAV) - Tough call here... we've had a different winner each of the last 7 seasons.
Golden Arm Winner: Enrique Vazquez (HAV) - Going out on a limb, I know.
Wunderkind Winner: Javier Drake (WV) - He'll score over 130 runs this year... which hasn't happened since 2012.

Sovereign League

Great Lakes
1. Crystal Lake - They kind of ruined what was supposed to be a compelling division race last year. What's up with that?
2. Fargo - I like their offense just a touch over the Gnats, but the pitching isn't quite there. Oh, and Pat Watson injuries.
3. Duluth - There's a huge gap between the top two and bottom two teams in this division. Someone has to fill it!
4. Canton - Young pitchers keep them ahead of the Badgers, but the gap will shrink.
5. Kalamazoo - There are huge holes everywhere. This season is to get the finances in shape.

Desert Hills -
1. Bakersfield - Best all around team, their top two starters weren't even with the team at the start of last year. They can still resign Neil Maes if they need to.
2. Palm Springs - Really like the Mike Clarke pickup.
3. Aurora - The pitching is still second to none, but the offense has lots of holes.
4. Reno - Love the additions, but it won't be quite enough in this super tough division.
5. Yuma - The only pick in the division I feel safe about. Thanks, Bob!

Rising Sun
1. Shin Seiki - WHY DO PEOPLE KEEP TRADING THEM YOUNG STARS?!?!?!
2. Neo-Tokyo - They're not quite stars and scrubs... but when you're up against a team of stars, you finish second.
3. Okinawa - More young talent already in the majors than people realize.
4. Toyama - I hate Zenko Okada right now. (my top pick after Wiggins in the 2028 draft class)

SL Awards Winners
Royal Raker Winner: Tomas Martinez (NT) - He'll hit more home runs this year than last year.
Golden Arm Winner: John Turner (AUR) - I think he pulls it together enough this year to win it over Suitani, who's great but misses a few starts with a minor injury.
Wunderkind Winner: Juan Carlos Ornelza (KAL) - I think I picked him last year, too...

Imperial League
Seaboard
1. West Virginia
2. Hartford
3. Arlington
4. Manchester
A blow out race, barring every member of the Alleghenies spending weeks on the DL - early Vegas odds for that sit at 3-1... Hartford and Arlington are pretty much interchangeable here... The Maulers will be better...

Dixie
1. Florida
2. New Orleans
3. Kentucky
4. San Antonio
4. Charleston
Florida may seem the cream of the crop... The Trendies keep inching, and have done enough this year to make a difference... T-breds finally suffer their 'Super Bowl Loser Hangover'... Calzones and Staties finish in flatfooted tie...

Trans Atlantic
1. Havanna
2. San Juan
3. Scottish
4. Amsterdam
5. London
Havana's choke-hold continues... San Juan, like New Orleans, has made some shrewd moves... Scotties have a bit of Aurora-syndrome - depending on too many older guys; will leaning on Yogi be a bad thing this year?... In a division that has three tough teams, the bottom feeders suffer, with Amsterdam and London playing the IL (historic) role of Yuma and Reno...

IL Awards Winners
Royal Raker Winner: Felix Zavala (NO) - The Trendie star finally gets the recognition he deserves...
Golden Arm Winner: Luppe van Dam (FLA) - If he stays healthy - he's already missed 2 weeks of play to start the year...
Wunderkind Winner: Colin Robinson (KTY) - Just to be different

Sovereign League
Great Lakes
1. Crystal Lake
2. Fargo
3. Duluth
4. Canton
5. Kalamazoo
Crystal Lake by a landslide - the only question is who will have the bigger division lead - 'Gnats or Allies... For a good team, Fargo's success seems to ride upon a narrow knife's edge... Duluth a distant second... Canton and Kzoo are a coin flip and a distant-distant 4/5 - the highlight being the ending of Provost's career so he can don his coaching cleats for Aurora...

Desert Hills
1. Palm Springs
2. Aurora
3. Bakersfield
4. Reno
5. Yuma
Codgers build on last years success... Surprising success from unexpected places, their Starters and back-end 'pen does the job... Bears suffer from a lack of cheap carbohydrates, sucking in carbon emissions, and depending too much on the Duluth Duo... Reno makes the race for second a lot closer than anyone imagines... Yuma is... Yuma... But all you in the Paradise League of the Intercontinental Baseball Coalition - look out!

Rising Sun
1. Shin Seiki
2. Neo-Tokyo
3. Toyama
4. Okinawa
Badgers wrote:WHY DO PEOPLE KEEP TRADING THEM YOUNG STARS?!?!?!
Exactly... But don't think they are as strong as they look... Akira are a division winner in every other division... Fun race for 3rd in the division, with the nod to the Win-D's...[/quote]

SL Awards Winners
Royal Raker Winner: Clarence Carpenter (CL) - The acquisition of CC has been the driver of that run-a-way bus from Crystal lake
Golden Arm Winner: 'Tugboat' (AUR) - One Last Hurrah!!
Wunderkind Winner: Stewart Arundale (AUR) - and with that, perhaps enough respect from my browser to stop auto correcting his name to 'Trundle'.

Postseason
Badgers wrote:Florida - They've won once for every 5 postseason trips... it's year #5.
We'll have to do something about that...

IL Wild Card Winner
New Orleans over San Juan in 4 games

SL Wild Card Winner
Aurora over Neo-Tokyo in 5 games

IL Division Series Winners
Florida over New Orleans in 6 games
Havana over West Virginia in 5 games

SL Division Series Winners
Crystal Lake over Palm Springs in 6 games
Aurora over Shin Seiki in 7 games

League Championship Series Winners
IL: Florida over Havana in 7 games
SL: Aurora over Crystal in 7 games

PEC Winner
Aurora over Florida in 4 games
Borealis v. F-heads, part IV, and three straight for The Front Rangers over the Floridians... Because you've gotta have faith, faith, faith...

Re: 2030 Predictions!

#23 Post by Denny »

Better late than never! As always, I solemnly pledge that I have not looked at tonight's results before making these predictions

For 2030, I am employing my patented* STAR-TRAKR™ system to rate clubs--I look through each team's roster and award one point for each player my scout rates 3.5 actual stars, two points for each player rated 4 stars, three points for 4.5 stars, and four points for 5 star players; then total up the points to determine the teams' relative strength. Ties are broken by using the same system, but using players' potential rather than actual stars (in theory they could increase in talent over the course of the season). Obviously this method has its flaws, most notably the vagaries of my scout's opinions as well as the fact that a relief pitcher counts equally to a cleanup hitter, but as a quick shorthand it is actually kind of handy.

*not actually patented

Imperial League

Seaboard
1. West Virginia (19 STAR-TRAKR™ points)
2. Hartford (11)
3. Arlington (4)
4. Manchester (0)

Dixie
1. Kentucky (18)
2. Florida (6)
3. New Orleans (4)
4. San Antonio (0 - 4 tiebreaker points)
5. Charleston (0 - 1 tiebreaker)

Trans Atlantic
1. Havana (16)
2. San Juan (6 - 7 tiebreaker)
3. Scottish (6 - 6 tiebreaker)
4. London (3)
5. Amsterdam (2)

The IL is ridiculously top-heavy this season, with three clear division behemoths, and Hartford trailing a good distance behind. Florida should edge out SJ and SCO for the final wild card. Other than that, yecch.

IL Awards Winners
Royal Raker Winner: 3B Luis Cedeño, HAR
Golden Arm Winner: SP Enrique Vazquez, HAV
Wunderkind Winner: RF Shu-De Mu, KEN

Sovereign League

Great Lakes
1. Fargo (17)
2. Crystal Lake (11)
3. Duluth (1 - 5 tiebreaker)
4. Kalamazoo (1 - 1 tiebreaker)
5. Canton (0)

Desert Hills
1. Aurora (12)
2. Palm Springs (11)
3. Bakersfield (9)
4. Reno (6)
5. Yuma (0)

Rising Sun
1. Shin Seiki (21)
2. Neo-Tokyo (9)
3. Okinawa (4)
4. Toyama (2)

The SL is significantly more balanced (which makes sense, since the SL RULES :bang: ) with a lot of teams potentially in the mix. Aurora back on top of the Desert Hills was an unwelcome surprise, though injuries and luck could make it anyone's division. I expected to see Duluth/Reno/Okinawa rated higher, but the numbers don't lie :geek: Regardless, this league will likely come down to the two heavyweights, Fargo and Shin Seiki.

SL Awards Winners
Royal Raker Winner: CF Pat Watson, FAR
Golden Arm Winner: SP Yakamochi Suitani, SS
Wunderkind Winner: SS Rodrigo Vásquez, TOY

Late but I didn't download the file before I did this. I also tried my best to avoid any spoilers.

IL Seaboard
1. West Virginia Alleghenies - WV still reign supreme in the Seaboard division. They might be starting their re-tooling but they are still too good to not be a contender.
2. Hartford Harpoon - Gunning for a WC spot with huge splashes of money, but can it pay off?
3. Arlington Bureaucrats - A down year probably due to issues with their economy
4. Manchester Maulers - Still slowly gaining momentum, it takes years to get it going

IL Dixie
1. Kentucky Thoroughbreds - Best SP lineup of Dixie, screw it, best bullpen too so best pitcher squad of Dixie. On the batting front, they have a boatload of well-rounded talents who can hit for contact, for power and run hard. Top tier contender in my book.
2. Florida Featherheads - Well-balanced team that can play both sides of the ball well. Great defense and a batting lineup packed with power.
3. New Orleans Trendsetters - I think their pitching isn't good enough to be the top team. They do have good bats and solid fielding to sort of counteract that. Their hitter's ballpark is not fun for their pitchers but their bats will feast on it.
4. Charleston Statesmen - Another year of gathering assets for future
5. San Antonio Falzones of Laredo - Full blown rebuilding

IL Trans Atlantic
1. Havana Leones - Goddamn the talent of this team. Scary pitching backed up by solid fielding, especially the infield that made to make any groundballer smile. Solid bats, huge power output. If only they have more LHB to take advantage of their ballpark's leftie bias -- not like they need that this season anyway.
2. San Juan Coqui - Questionable pitching and mediocre bats are what I see. They do have a pitcher-friendly ballpark and could try to grind with some hard nose defense. Roberto Salazar, Luis Bonilla and Roberto Martinez are great threats in every game.
3. Scottish Claymores - Tough one to predict, I think their bullpen can help lessen the blows off their questionable starting lineup but it's still a vulnerable weakness of them. Their batting isn't out of the world either. They do have Vincent Powell and Pat Barry who can carry the team in a homerun-friendly park though.
4. London Underground - Looks to be an run-of-the-mill team. I do expect their left-heavy lineup to carry them in their home park.
5. Amsterdam Lions - Rebuilding year is what I see with their talent

IL Awards Winners
Royal Raker Winner: Luis Cedeno -- Pulling for my boy here, time for a rebound year
Golden Arm Winner: Enrique Vazquez -- God tier pitcher, what more can I say?
Wunderkind Winner: Ricardo Montoya -- Taking an unorthodox pick here. Let's see if this international FA closer can do it.

SL Great Lakes
1. Fargo Dinosaurs - Their betting is "coach porn" level and they also have solid pitching. I expect another strong seasons from them.
2. Crystal Lake Sandgnats - Great talent on both sides of the ball, no glaring weakness, some huge talents that can change things on their own. Very solid.
3. Kalamazoo Badgers - Retooling, it's coin flip between Badgers or Warriors for 3rd and 4th in my opinion.
4. Duluth Warriors - Rebuilding
5. Canton Longshoremen - Another army-themed team in rebuilding mode. It takes time to train an army, that's for sure.

SL Desert Hills
1. Palm Springs Codgers - Solid all-around team. Their left-heavy squad will be taking full advantage of their home court.
2. Aurora Borealis - Great pitching but doubtful batting. They do have a defensive park to help that.
3. Bakersfield Bears - Good talents on both sides of the ball but I am doubtful of their pitchers. They have great batting but a pitcher ballpark, so these batters have to hit real good and also field well at home to not screw up home park (supposed) advantage
4. Reno Zephyrs - I think they have the talents to be on the rise eventually, but for now they don't have enough to threaten the higher teams
5. Yuma Bulldozers - Yuma's gonna Yuma

SL Rising Sun
1. Shin Seiki Evas - The evil Empire, the true Vail, the trade maestro. Plays some RPG final boss music when you go against them cuz they are.
2. Neo-Tokyo Akira - I think they are similar to Wind Dancers in power level but slightly more talented this year.
3. Toyama Wind Dancers - I think this is a reloading years for them. They do have some talented bats to take advantage of their ballpark but their questionable pitching just might drag them down a little.
4. Okinawa Shisa - It is chapter 1 in the book of "Shisa & The Evil Empire". Based on modern web novel trend, the protagonist is weak as heck and is getting laughed at and taunted by the Evas. On a more serious note, they have a let-it-fly ballpark and not enough talented batters this season. I expect other teams to have home run party down there. I would be sitting by the outfield if I were a fan, gonna be happy catching a HR out there.

SL Awards Winners
Royal Raker Winner: Tomas Martinez -- I am tempted to say Pat Watson, but I think he ain't going to be performing like last year and Tomas Martinez will break out.
Golden Arm Winner: Ernesto Molina -- It's either him or Yakamochi Suitani anyway
Wunderkind Winner: Rodrigo Vasquez -- five-tools on SS, he'd be wrecking in the WAR
