April 8, 2029 Neo-Tokyo, Japan The 2029 season marks a turning point for the Akira franchise. No longer in rebuilding mode or a surprise playoff contender, opening day carried expectations that Neo-Tokyo is a team to be reckoned with. Can they live up to those expectations when no one will be taking them for granted?
Ne-To begins the season on the road at Kalamazoo and Duluth, both coming off down seasons. Newly acquired SP José Santos opens the season by tossing 5 scoreless innings and LF Ramiro Reynoso, filling in for the injured Jeff Grier, provides all the offense they need with a 3rd inning grand slam.
Game 2 saw another 3rd inning outburst. Seven runs was all the offense the Akira got, and again all they needed as Alfonso Ramos picked up a 7-1 victory.
Miguel Alverez was shelled in relief as the Akira dropped game 3, 8-2. The outing led to a quick demotion to AAA for Alverez at the end of the week.
The weekend series at Duluth began in dramatic fashion as the Akira launched a 3 run 9th inning comeback and finished off the Warriors in 14 innings thanks to a Tomás Martínez solo HR. José Fernández picked up his first win and Santos his 2nd to complete the sweep.
Neo-Tokyo finishes the week at 5-1, good for a half game lead in the Rising Sun division. A tough homestand begins against Auroura (4-2) and defending champs Fargo (5-1).
