Hey all! We're back with a quick podcast to discuss a handful of trades that took place during the trade deadline, the IFA signing period, geezers, and the insane IL wildcard race.
So strap in and get ready for PEBA-Cast, episode 7!
LISTEN HERE!!!
Here is the chart I made this morning. I thought it was fun! The red fill connotes a team in the penalty next signing period.

Outstanding, as usual, gentlemen. The discussion of the International Free Agents - and the chart - was especially interesting. Raises a philosophical question: I wonder if it would be a viable strategy to concentrate on signing top IFA talent and comb the waiver and regular free agent lists and, basically, trade away picks and ignore the draft. The IFA pool seems more manageable, and the free agents have a longer track record of stats against big league competition, so maybe you could cut down on some of the wild misses that I, at least, seem to pick up in the draft.
Anyway, it was a thought-provoking podcast. Thanks, guys!

Great podcast guys.
As mentioned, the Norris trade was simply done to get SOMETHING for him since he wasn't going to re-sign with us. It got to the point where he was asking for a trade monthly and just generally wasn't having a good time in Toyama. De Nooyer doesn't have much potential of getting to the PEBA, but at 6'10" 240lbs, we may just hire him as team security.

Loved this one! What a great little podcast!
Speaking as my team, we didn't dive into IFA's, as, like you guys theorized, we didn't have much wiggle room to spend.

I like the shorter eps. I think it keeps us focused a little more lol.Trendsetters wrote:Loved this one! What a great little podcast!

Good stuff as always!
You can actually chart the StatsLab Playoff Odds progression over the course of a season: IL Wild Card Race
You can see that Kentucky took a big jump after the last sim. The playoff odds in StatsLab isn't based off of talent on the team so much as team performance over the course of the year. So if a team acquires a bunch of talent, StatsLab doesn't really pick up on that until the numbers start to shift. This also results in bigger swings when teams are close.
