Neat Stuff, Post-Sim Thread: 2028, Season 22

With 2028 here, I figured I should go ahead and start this.

I was doing my preliminary Draft scouting and ran across a pair of players who COULD be related.

LF Paul Oglethorpe 21-year-old from New York, New York playing for Ohio State that will be draft eligible this season.
RF Zach Oglethorpe 20-year-old from New York, New York playing for USF that is 1 year behind Paul.

Just an interesting little find while scouring the US College League. Obviously, NYC is a big place and this could just be a coincidence.

Well... aside from the obvious, they could be 'brothers from another mother'... there's a fun story line there... adopted??

Woot! Ryan Lambert is a Longshoreman, probably for too much money and certainly for a comp pick, but his bat at a generally mediocre offensive position could be a difference maker as the Longshoremen hope to follow up their second ever non-losing season with their first ever playoff appearance.

Neat is the Borealis welcoming SP John Turner to the Front Range, who will replace the greedy Clark Snow in Aurora's rotation. If you can't out-slug the Evil Evas, you better be able to out-pitch them... Also somewhat neat is former-Bear, 1B Carlos Saenz signing with the Borealis. Saenz has a pretty cheap deal, 1-year deal, so that if he does not look like the guy who hit .273 with 21 HRs at AAA Kyoto two years ago, he's expendable. He's a cheap gamble in an attempt to bring in some power.

And FWIW, the Scottish were pretty busy...

I wanted to give a look back at 2027 final gross league revenue.

Here is a recent history of our league revenue. First year in a while that gross revenue has declined. I hope with the revamp this season we can increase our league revenue!

Year Total Gross Revenue
2024 $4,590,277,436
2025 $4,530,230,968
2026 $4,620,593,072
2027 $4,595,616,980

After a Neat sim that brought SP John Turner to The Front Range, a Not So Neat saw DH Pedro Ferringo take his hitting shoes to the Desert portion of the Desert Hills and the Zephyrs for a measly $5.5M/season for 3-years. He'd still be in Aurora if he had settled for that and not asked for $24M-$18M in early negotiations...

Time for 'Fudd' to show his stuff and beat out the 'Two-Headed Catcher 2.0' for the DH spot (or LF if Pope DH's)...

Reno's offense instantly gets better!! Definitely was disappointed in having to let Pedro go... And the clubhouse is apparently not too happy about it...

I'm excited to have longtime SS DH Ryozo Takeuchi back in the fold on an option deal headed in to spring training.

He is one of my earliest draft picks from back in the LRS - way back in the 2012 season. He has had a great career and is SS's all time HR leader with 345. He still seems like he has a little left in the tank, even if only as a PH/DH against RHP.

SS's 26th roster spot is still wide open, but I'm leaning towards seeing what good old Takeuchi has left, even if it isn't the best roster construction approach.

I didn't think he would accept. I am pretty pleased with my FA acquisitions. Hopefully we can get to .500 this season.

The new faces are:
SP Ed Emery
RP Francisco González
RP Geoff Lawson
DH Pedro Ferringo
CF Steve Boyer (Minor League Promotion)

I'm very interested to see CF Boyer in PEBA. I loved him when I drafted him and looks to be poised to succeed.

Boyer definitely looks like he could terrorize the Desert Hills for a long time...

Boyer socked a lot of home runs in Glendale last year, that's for sure.

At the other end of the age spectrum, Palm Springs is hoping John Martin can stay in one piece long enough to help the team in center this season. Otherwise we are looking at either a CF-by-mediocre-committee situation, or a converted corner outfielder with disastrous CF defense. :-C

I love the Pat Berry signing for Arlington. Huge impact without a crippling long term deal.

Doh! I only looked at the hat in the picture... Either way I love the signing.

Don't sleep on the Trendsetters and Zephyrs this year...

Still a few big names looking for a home...
